  3. 'Lack of transparency' over RAF Scampton salepublished at 09:18 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

The MP for Lincoln says it doesn't make economic sense for the government to sell off RAF Scampton.

    RAF Scampton

Labour's Karen Lee argues the site may be potentially contaminated, which the Ministry of Defence has denied in the past.

The station is currently home to the Red Arrows and will be closed and sold off in three years time.

Ms Lee says it won't be in the government's interest to sell it:

    Quote Message

The value of that land means that the whole thing could result in a loss once it's sold because of the work needed to make it viable to use it for other things. I just feel as though there's been a real lack of transparency here."

  7. Bomber Command Centre celebrates first birthdaypublished at 16:26 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2019

The International Bomber Command Centre near Lincoln's celebrating its first birthday today.

    IBCC

Its official opening was last April, but visitors were first allowed on the site on this day last year.

The £10m centre has the UK's tallest war memorial, which stands at 102ft.

Bomber Command crews were tasked with attacking Germany's airbases, troops, shipping and industrial complexes connected to the war effort.

Almost half of the 125,000 personnel lost their lives and it is estimated between 300,000 and 600,000 German civilians died as a result of large-scale bombing.

Lincolnshire was chosen as the site of the IBCC because 27 RAF Bomber Command stations - more than a third of the total - were based in the county during World War Two.
