    A man has died in a crash which closed a section of the A52 yesterday afternoon.

    A Ford Focus and a Vauxhall Insignia collided at about 14:30 on the road near Barrowby.

    Police say the 79-year-old driver of the Ford Focus died in the incident.

    The Foreign Office says it is closely monitoring the case involving a crew of British rescuers, including one from Lincoln, who are stranded off the coast of Sicily.

    Jon Stone was part of a mission which rescued 47 migrants who were trying to cross the Mediterranean in a dingy.

    They were refused permission to dock in Italy and have been prevented from leaving.

    It's been a year since Lincoln's transport hub opened.

    The £30m project took almost 18 months to complete and includes a bus station, 1,000-space multi-storey car park and improvements to the entrance to the city's railway station.

    Work is being carried out to upgrade a specialist ward in North Hykeham for patients with mental health problems and dementia.

    Brant Ward houses around 20 patients in dormitory style accommodation, but this is being turned into individual ensuite bedrooms.

    The work is expected to be finished by September.

    Hundreds of items have been stolen from a food bank in Grimsby.

    The burglary, at the Rock Foundation on Heneage Road, took place last weekend.

    Large chest freezers were switched off and food which had been collected from people in the town was taken.

    The stolen items include jars of coffee, gammon joints, cheese and hundreds of tins of food.

    Anyone with information about the burglary is being asked to contact Humberside Police.

  10. Hunt for hammer-wielding would-be robberspublished at 16:33 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    A gang of four men, two wielding hammers, who attempted to rob a shop in Lincoln, are being sought by police.

    One of the men threatened a worker in the Ampal store on Sincil Bank last night before a struggle over the till broke out.

    All four offenders left the store without taking anything, but caused a significant amount of damage to the store.

    Jon Stone is part of the Sea-Watch 3 crew, a group of British rescuers who are being refused permission to leave local waters after Italian authorities accused them of "assisting illegal migration".

    It's after they picked up a group of migrants who'd run into trouble during a storm in the Mediterranean 10 days ago.

    Jon, who's the ship's chief engineer, says they've been told they can't get off the boat and things are getting pretty desperate:

  12. Boston and Skegness MP backs Brady amendmentpublished at 15:26 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    We told you earlier that two Lincolnshire MPs have indicated they're planning to vote for one of the amendments which would alter the Prime Minister's Brexit withdrawal plan.

    Now the Boston and Skegness MP has said he plans to follow suit and back the Brady amendment.

    The amendment would replace the Irish backstop element of Theresa May's plan, an issue which proved decisive when her initial Withdrawal Bill was voted down earlier this month:

    The family of a Lincolnshire teenager who died in a crash three days before Christmas have released a tribute.

    Siân Chambers, 19, was killed along with 19-year-old Alex Ross after a collision with a Citroen C3 on the A46 on 22 December.

    In a statement, her family said: "Siân was a much-loved daughter, sister and friend. We are totally devastated by her passing and are struggling to, in any way, come to terms with the loss."

    A Lincoln man is part of a team of British rescuers stuck at sea near Sicily after being refused permission to leave their boat or local waters by the Italian authorities.

    Jon Stone is part of the Sea-Watch 3 crew, who picked up 47 people from an inflatable vessel during storms in the Mediterranean on 19 January.

    But Italian minister Matteo Salvini has accused them of assisting illegal migration and is refusing to let them leave while authorities carry out an investigation.

    The group has asked the Foreign Office to intervene and apply pressure on Italian authorities and accept the migrants onboard.

    The Met Office has issued a snow warning for Lincolnshire tonight and into tomorrow.

    There's a chance of snow, possibly heavy at times, developing overnight - with an icy start tomorrow.

    The warning is in effect for most of the Midlands.

    We'll keep an eye on it and let you know if it looks like we're going to have similar scenes to this taken in Lincoln last year:

    The amendment would essentially replace the Irish Backstop witth "alternative arrangements to avoid a hard border".

    The Gainsborough MP, Sir Edward Leigh, and the Sleaford and North Hykeham MP, Dr Caroline Johnson, are planning to vote for it if it's put forward.

    However, it's ultimately up to the Speaker of the House, John Bercow, to decide if it goes before Parliament at all this evening.

    Two men have been charged with several offences after "laughing gas" canisters were stolen from a hospital in Lincoln.

    The nitrous oxide gas canisters were stolen from the Nuffield Hospital last June.

    Joseph Cousins, 19, from Upton Place, Littleport, in Cambridgeshire, has been charged with burglary with intent to steal and conspiracy to commit burglary.

    Ryan White, 22, of Tithe Road, Chatteris, in Cambridgeshire, has been charged with burglary with intent to steal, two counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, driving a vehicle dangerously, driving while disqualified and the possession of a Class A drug.

    Both have been bailed and are due to appear at Lincoln Crown Court next month.

    A 20-year-old woman who was arrested in connection with the incident last June has been released under investigation.
