As this aerial footage shows from earlier, it's been a day where commuters have had to deal with longer journeys than usual.

Updates on the Tube strike have ended for the day but we'll be back at 08:00 on Tuesday with the latest news, sport, travel and weather for London.

Although the Tube strike is over, the after effects mean that many lines will reduce in operation during the evening rather than increase.

This is because of aspects such as staff displacement and shift patterns making it unsafe to open stations.

And those that are open already, are likely to close earlier than normal as well.

It will be a damp and long journey home for many commuters from central London this evening.

While Oxford Circus is quieter than usual because of the station being closed, the pavements along Oxford Street are crowded with people holding umbrellas and dodging around puddles.

At bus stops around the West End there are long lines of people hoping to squeeze on to buses. When services arrive, many are turned away because the buses are too full.

On the roads there are plenty of buses, taxis and cyclists, with heavy traffic along main routes like Euston Road.

At some stations including Goodge Street and Warren Street people are queuing outside the gates, hoping Tubes will begin running again this evening.

Given the lack of staff inside the stations, it seems like they will be waiting for a while.

Londoners appeared silently resigned to commutes that were taking up to an hour longer than usual.

They told BBC News their views.

Social media has been in overdrive today as people struggled into and now back from work.

Although the strike has finished, most stations remain closed.

Today was the first day of exams for many university students. 

The strike meant some arrived late or missed their assessments altogether.

The automated tannoy system has said stations will probably be closed for the entire day but people are ignoring that and are still queuing. 

Our reporter added there was no sign yet of staff.

The 24-hour Tube strike by union members has now finished however TfL has said disruption will last throughout the evening. 

The strike is to finish at 18:00.

TfL Bus alerts, external has the latest on the service. 

Transport for London (TfL) has warned that problems on the Tube might "get worse before they get better" when the strike ends at 18:00 GMT.

Evening Tube workers were drafted in to provide a partial service on some Underground lines during peak hours between 07:00 and 19:00 on Monday.

This has left London Underground low on staff during the evening commute.

TfL said stations which opened on Monday would close by 19:00. Normal service is expected to resume on Tuesday.
