    As I cycled though the streets of central London I slowly realised I'd become the member of a gang. 

    Wordlessly a group of commuters had formed a pack around me, hunting for a free docking station in the streets around Piccadilly. 

    I often cycle to work using London's cycle hire scheme, to speed up my commute. The Tube strike had forced commuters to try new ways of getting into work.

    But during my Tube strike commute I found that even in the midst of a crisis, Londoners have not lost their ability to find humour in miserable moments.

    To recap:

    • Transport for London (TfL) said it was running limited services on 10 out of 11 Tube lines, external
    •  A total of 114 stations are closed (out of 270) and 75 have trains running through but not stopping
    • There has been a 149% increase in Santander cycle hires 
    • Docklands Light Railway (DLR) services are running but are busier than usual 
    • About 150 extra buses have been deployed
    • Although National Rail services are not affected by the strike, there is no Underground services from key interchange stations such as Victoria, King's Cross, Waterloo, Paddington, Euston, Bank and London Bridge. 
    • There are no services at all on the Victoria line. 
    • The strike finishes at 18:00.

    London's cycle hire scheme has proved popular with commuters during the strike.

    TfL has revealed there has been a 149% increase of bike hires.
