Today's strike is part of a long running dispute between the unions and Tube station staff over ticket office closures.

TfL said the number of redundancies caused by ticket office closures would be minimal and staff would be redeployed.

But the RMT union says more than 800 jobs have been axed under TfL's so-called Fit For The Future programme, adding that London Underground was only offering to reinstate 150.

Most of the 500 new jobs claimed by the company were to fill current vacancies and staff turnover, according to the union.
