  3. Actions of Heathrow protesters 'selfish'published at 09:59 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2017

Responding to the actions of protesters at Heathrow today, a Back Heathrow spokesperson said:

“The actions of these protestors are selfish, short-sighted and counter-productive. Most local communities living near Heathrow support expansion and passengers simply want to be able to use the airport in peace.

“This pointless protest will merely aggravate thousands of ordinary people, many of whom simply want to get to work or catch a flight.”

Back Heathrow is a group of residents, businesses and community groups who campaign for a "secure future" for Heathrow Airport.

Rising Up! activists have claimed responsibility for the blockage.

Spokesperson Laura Bedofrd said: “Rising Up! has taken this action today to show solidarity with those people worst affected by Heathrow expansion.

"Thousands of local residents are set to lose their homes and 300,000 people a year lose their lives due to effects of climate change," she said.

Traffic is slow on the M4 spur into Heathrow as protesters have blocked the tunnel into the airport.

BBC London reporter Gareth Furby, who is at the scene, said about three or four protesters have chained themselves onto a vehicle.

The police are currently helping cars to reverse out of the tunnel and a tow truck is on the scene, however it is not known how long it will take officers to unchain the protesters.

Our reporter said he believed the protest was against the third runway expansion.

Lincoln City will be taking on Arsenal in the quarter finals of the FA Cup. And if that sentence felt strange to read then don't worry because it felt very strange to type.

Arsenal saw off Sutton United with a 2-0 victory, giving the uner-pressure Arsene Wenger some much needed respite.
