  1. Watch: Appeal after man goes on rampage at Network Rail depot published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2017

    British Transport Police are appealing for information after a man broke into a Network Rail compound.Shortly before 09:00 on Saturday 22 October, a man broke into a Network Rail compound near Victoria station using a sledgehammer. When inside the building he used the hammer to smash up walls, windows, toilets and computers. He then stole a pair of keys to a vehiclee and drove away from the compound before driving it through a pair of gates.

    Retired teacher Chris Searle joined Robert Elms earlier on BBC Radio London to talk about ' Stepney Words III, external ' - a collection of poems authored by local students.

    He edited the original book in 1971 and was sacked by his school because of it. His students came out on strike against his dismissal.

    A man who died after being stabbed in St Osyth yesterday has been named by police as Danny Myers, 23, from Enfield, north London.

    A post-mortem examination has been carried out, which found the cause of his death was a stab wound to the heart.

    Detectives are continuing to question a man and a woman arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday.

    New MPs should take part in mock debates to build up confidence before entering the Commons bear pit, a committee of senior MPs has said.

    The report also recommends giving newly elected members a guide to London transport to help avoid confusion.

    Some new MPs said they struggled with Oyster cards - the travel passes used on buses and the Underground - when they arrived at Westminster.

    The report was produced by the Commons Administration Committee.

    A football fan intentionally threw a punch Crystal Palace's bald eagle mascot during a fractious derby game, a court has heard.

    Daniel Boylett, 35, of Eltham, south-east London, was arrested after trouble at a Palace home game against Charlton Athletic on 23 September.

    Boylett was part of an "aggressive" group of fans that targeted the 25-year-old bird Kayla, the court heard.

    He denies attempted criminal damage worth an estimated £20,000.

    Crystal Palace, nicknamed the eagles, adopted Kayla as a mascot in 2010. She flies around the stadium at every home game.

    Ed Sheeran's manager has said he's  decided to speak out against ticket touts  after complaints that they were "taking money from dying kids' hands".

    There was outrage last month  after reports, external  that £110 tickets for a charity concert at the Royal Albert Hall were being resold for £5,000.

    Sheeran's manager Stuart Camp and other industry figures are speaking to a House of Commons select committee.

    Earlier, he said people were "making extreme profits" and it was getting "out of our control".

  12. Finsbury Park toddler death: Man charged with murderpublished at 14:06 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2017

    A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a one-year-old boy and the attempted murder of a girl, also aged one.

    Bidhya Sagar Das, 33, was charged after the children were found with critical injuries at a flat near Finsbury Park, north London, on Saturday night.

    The boy died in the early hours of Sunday and the girl remains in a critical condition in hospital.

    Mr Das, from Hackney, was remanded in custody by Thames magistrates.

    He will next appear at the Old Bailey on Thursday.

    Labour's Karen Buck is now introducing her bill, which aims to deal with what she sees as problems arising from the rapid growth of the "short-let" sector through companies such as Airbnb. 

    Her bill would require anyone renting out their property short-term to notify their local authority, which she argues would make it easier to enforce rules relating to noise, rubbish and anti-social behaviour.

    "Good ideas can be undermined when a minority abuse or exploit them," Ms Buck says, and "individuals need to be protected". 

    She says Airbnb lettings in London rose 127% last year.

    Local council elections are just days away but these volunteers are not seeking votes on behalf of councillors.

    The members of the campaign group We Can Win want to make sure that residents are aware of the unique way that their local authority is elected. It is an electoral system that they object to.
