  1. 'Mischievous' Jane Austen faked marriage recordspublished at 17:49 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2017

    Novelist Jane Austen created fake entries in a marriage register linking herself with two separate men , it has emerged.

    The Pride & Prejudice author is thought to have made the handwritten entries in the record book while a teenager in the late 18th Century.

    Hampshire Archives, which holds the Steventon marriage register for 1755-1812, says Austen had access to the book because her father, George Austen, was the rector of the parish.

    The little-known document includes a fictitious entry for the publication of banns between Henry Frederic Howard Fitzwilliam of London and Jane Austen of Steventon.

    Another fake entry details the marriage of Edmund Arthur William Mortimer of Liverpool and Jane Austen of Steventon.

    It is not known whether either Fitzwilliam or Mortimer actually existed.

    A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in east London.

    Emergency services were called at about noon on Sunday to reports of an unresponsive man at a block of flats on the Cranston Estate in Shoreditch. 

    The man who is in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

    The Poor School in King's Cross is closing after helping hundreds of people get into the entertainment industry who would otherwise not have access to acting school. 

    The school operates by offering classes in the evening so students who are often older can keep working to help fund it.  

    Ex-EastEnder, Jessie Wallace, who played Kat Slater in the long-running BBC drama says its closure would leave a ''gaping hole''.

    Liz Truss said victims of sexual assault would be able to pre-record their testimony from September.

    Speaking to the Sunday Times, external , she said schemes in three cities showed the system led to a higher level of "early guilty pleas".

    The scheme was piloted for child victims of sexual offences in Liverpool, Leeds and Kingston-upon-Thames.
