    A trust which removed a floating home with a roof made of Foxtons For Sale signs on Regent’s Canal has apologised to anyone who thought it "acted without compassion".

    The Evening Standard, external reported that friends Max Bloom and Stephen Watt were left homeless after their Wendy-house-style structure on a stretch of the canal at Angel - near Boris Johnson’s family home was torn down.

    It had been floating on empty beer kegs for over a fortnight, the Standard said.

    Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has begun searching for a Chair and Board members to lead the city’s new Child Obesity Taskforce, aiming to combat the epidemic of childhood obesity across the capital.

    Nearly 40% of children aged 10 and 11 in London are overweight or obese and adults in London have higher rates of obesity than comparable global cities such as New York, Sydney, Paris and Madrid.

    The mayor is aiming to “significantly reduce this unacceptable level of child obesity in London” by 2028.

    A teacher accused of plotting a terror attack in the UK has admitted playing an Islamic State video in class to give students a "more holistic" view.

    Umar Haque, 25, had allegedly resolved to strike landmarks including Big Ben and Westfield shopping centre.

    The Old Bailey has heard how he trained youngsters for terrorism at the Ripple Road mosque in Barking, while swearing them to secrecy.

    Haque also played an IS video while working at the Lantern of Knowledge School in Leyton the court heard.

    Giving evidence, Haque described his "shock" when one of his students requested an IS video.

    He said: "During my Islamic studies lessons I would always play videos relevant to the topic. It was the end of term.

    "The most well-behaved of the class, I told them you can pick a video. I was shocked that he says 'Sir, I want to see an Isis video'. I said all right then. It was obviously not a good idea."

    Haque is on trial alongside Abuthaher Mamun, 19, Muhammad Abid, 27, and Nadeem Patel, 26, who he allegedly recruited through the mosque.

    All defendants deny the charges.

    Critics of an initiative aimed at stopping foreign investors from snapping up properties in London say the scheme 'means little in practice'.

    A group of builders and housing associations has offered to sell homes worth up to £350,000 only to Londoners for their first month on the market.

    UK buyers can make offers for the following two months, with foreign investors allowed to participate after three.

    But Caroline Pidgeon, a London Assembly Member for the Liberal Democrats, said the initiative is "yet another voluntary scheme" that will not be widely taken up by the housing industry.

    London Mayor Sadiq Khan's push to get the idea up and running came after research he commissioned last year, external suggested 50% of new properties bought by overseas buyers in central London were homes under £500,000.

  13. Appeal after Redbridge 'hit-and-run'published at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2018

    Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses following a fail-to-stop collision in Redbridge.

    On Tuesday, 9 January, a silver BMW 330 Sport was in collision with a Vauxhall Vectra on the A406 Ilford Hill Flyover above the junction with A118 Romford Road and Ilford Hill.

    As a result of the impact from the collision, the Vectra collided with two men who were standing at the side of the flyover next to their own car, which had broken down.

    The two men, aged 46 and 45, were taken to hospital with serious injuries which resulted in the 45-year-old man having his leg amputated. They both remain in hospital.

    The occupants of the Vectra - a driver and a passenger - were not injured.

    The BMW stopped at the scene, however the male driver ran off prior to the arrival of emergency services.

  14. London Overground 'part suspended'published at 17:05 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2018

    There is currently no service on the London Overground between Willesden Junction and Richmond due to a power failure at Acton Central.

    TfL say tickets are being accepted on local buses and London Underground services.

    There is also some minor delays on the London Trams in south London.

  15. Appeal after man stabbed in attempted moped theftpublished at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2018

    Police are appealing for information after a man was stabbed following an attempted moped-enabled theft in Oxford Street.

    Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene at 21:23 GMT on Sunday and found a 22-year-old man suffering from a stab injury.

    His injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.

    The victim was walking along Oxford Street with his friend when his mobile phone was snatched out of his hand by a passenger on a moped.

    The victim pursued on foot, caught up with the moped and grabbed the passenger. The two had an altercation and the victim was stabbed.

    Both the passenger and the driver made off on the moped without the mobile phone in the direction of Great Portland Street.

    No arrests have been made.

    Detectives have issued CCTV after a 24-year-old man was attacked in Bow and robbed of his Louis Vuitton bag and £500 in cash.

    The victim, a local businessman, had been sat in his parked car on Ford Close at 17:30 on 15 January when he was approached by two men wearing balaclavas.

    One of the men dragged the victim out of his car, demanding his watch, while the other suspect grabbed the bag and money.

    The two suspects fled in a black Audi A4 in the direction of Roman Road, however officers have discovered that vehicle had false number plates.

    No arrests have been made, and enquiries are being carried out by Tower Hamlets' Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

    PC Andrew Hillier said: "This is a nasty attack on a local businessman who was robbed of his takings after he finished work.

    "I am appealing to anyone who can assist this investigation to come forward and speak to police - these are violent men who need to be arrested."
