Investigators from the police watchdog are appealing for witnesses to officers restraining a man in north-west London.

The man was stopped by Met Police officers outside the New Atlas Cafe in Craven Park Road, Brent at about 15:00 on 4 October.

He was then restrained by a number of officers, and one used pepper spray to help detain him.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said it wants people who saw the restraint to get in touch.

IOPC Regional Director Jonathan Green said: “This incident took place in public view during the day and was witnessed by a number of people.

“To uphold public confidence in the police complaints system we will be investigating the use of stop and search tactics in this incident and whether the actions of those officers were appropriate and proportionate and followed approved police policies.”

  7. Central Line Tube strike cancelledpublished at 16:11 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2018

The Tube strike scheduled for tomorrow and Saturday has been cancelled, the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union said.

RMT changed its mind on the action - which would have caused misery for Christmas shoppers over the weekend - after "enough progress" was made in talks with London Underground.

Union members were due to walk out for six hours on Friday evening and most of Saturday.

An RMT spokesman said: "The union has warned that if further substantial progress isn't made in a number of key areas further action will be put on in the new year."

London mayor Sadiq Khan said: “It's good news for Londoners that the strike planned on the Central Line this weekend has been called off. The strike would have caused major disruption for commuters and shoppers around the busy Christmas period.

“Since I became Mayor the number of days lost to strikes on the tube has been reduced by 65%. This is because we have listened to the concerns of workers and engaged in constructive dialogue with the trade unions. I want to wish all passengers and staff across London an enjoyable and happy Christmas.”
