    The centre has since reopened and police say the closure is not believed to be connected to the blast at Manchester Arena.

    The Metropolitan Police Service has increased the number of officers on duty across the capital.

    In a statement, the Met said specialist officers were reviewing all the plans for upcoming events in London.

    This includes smaller events which may not have had a police presence seeing a greater focus.

    The Met also said a full review of the security and policing operations for the weekend's sporting events - at both Wembley and Twickenham - is underway.

    This will include the deployment of extra armed officers.

    The lead singer of Elbow, has said the attack at Manchester Arena is "a hugely disturbing thing".

    Guy Garvey told Martha Kearney about his connection to the arena which he described as "part of the heart of the city".

    "It's so sad that somebody can do that," he said. He added: "The people who will be the most afraid because of what he did... will be real Muslims, members of the real faith who don't believe in violence."

    Organisers said in a statement: "We would like to convey our deep sadness and sympathy to all those who have been affected by the tragic events that occurred last night at Manchester Arena.

    "In support of Manchester, the city leadership and the chief constable of Manchester, we can confirm that all live shows at our venues will be going ahead tonight as planned."

    The prime minister is in Manchester this afternoon.

    She said: "This has been an absolutely horrific attack.

    "I've been here today talking to the police about the investigation that is continuing. They are working to identify whether there was a wider group of people involved in this incident.

    "To cut off young lives in this way - it is devastating."

    Mrs May went on to praise the way police had responded to the attack.

    The mayor of the Liverpool City Region has spoken of his gratitude towards a taxi driver who found his daughters in the aftermath of the Manchester suicide attack.

    Steve Rotheram told the World at One "the taxi driver...walked through the streets of Manchester to go and physically get them and take them back to the cab that he'd left some distance away".

    "I'm forever grateful for that show of kindness," he added.

    Richard Sheriff, the headteacher of Harrogate Grammar School, said he believes seven of his pupils were at the concert.

    All of them are now safe, with some back at school today.

    He said two of them - in the "11-14 age group" - are awaiting surgery this afternoon, but their injuries are not life threatening.

    He said the attack was a "despicable act".

    "We must not let them win," he added.
