    A healthcare professional at a hospital has been arrested over the alleged administration of poison or a noxious substance to patients.

    Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust raised concerns over care to some patients on 8 November, Lancashire Police said.

    The allegations related to the alleged mistreatment and neglect of some patients on the Stroke Unit in November, police said.

    She has been bailed until 6 December.

    The worker has also been suspended from duty.

    The BBC understands officers are investigating the alleged incorrect administration of drugs.

    A healthcare professional at Blackpool Victoria hospital has been arrested on suspicion of mistreating and neglecting some patients in the stroke unit.

    Lancashire Police were contacted by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on 8 November after concerns were raised about the care provided to some patients.

    The allegations relate to the alleged mistreatment and neglect of patients on the stroke unit earlier this month.

    She was also held on suspicion of "administering any poison or noxious thing with the intent to injure".

    The BBC understands the investigation relates to the possible incorrect administration of drugs.

    The healthcare professional has been given police bail until 6 December.

    She has been suspended by the trust.

    Officers are at the very early stages of their investigation and are working closely with the trust.

    Needing victory in Dubai to overhaul Molinari, Southport's Fleetwood carded a 68 to finish on 10 under - eight shots behind winner Danny Willett.

    Molinari, who won The Open this summer, was confirmed as European number one during the final round.

    Samuel Morgan, 33, was last seen at an address on Nuttall Street at 07:00 on Saturday.

    Officers said they are concerned about his welfare.

    He is described as slim, 6ft tall, with a fair complexion, short dark brown hair and brown eyes.

    He was last seen wearing blue jeans and blue waterproof jacket.

    Fire crews were called to an explosion and fire at an aluminium foundry in Congleton yesterday afternoon.

    Buildings close to Tandom Metallurgical Group on Radnor Park Industrial Estate, had to be evacuated, external.

    Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews found the foundry well alight when they arrived.

    It added that the fire went out by itself after several hours and nobody was injured.

    A man has been charged after a taxi driver was stabbed in Bramhall in Cheshire.

    The cabbie crawled for help to a nearby house in the early hours of Sunday morning.

    He was knifed in the stomach by a man demanding money, police said.

    A 19-year-old man has been charged with assault and possession of a bladed article.

    Police officers in Warrington were assaulted more than 330 times over the past three years, figures show.

    There were 115 assaults against police officers in the town in 2016, 122 in 2017 and 97 between January and September this year.

    Cheshire's police and crime commissioner, David Keane, said it is "disgusting" that some people "have the audacity to attack serving police officers".

    Three men threatened a shopkeeper in Liverpool with a knife before stealing cash and cigarettes.

    The men, who were all wearing face coverings or hoods, entered the Family Shopper convenience store in Priory Road in Anfield at about 16:45 on Sunday, Merseyside Police said.

    No-one was injured.

    Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to get in touch.

    One of the men was described as wearing a light grey hooded top with blue stripes and black pants, another was wearing a light grey hooded top and grey pants and the third man was all in black with red trainers. They were carrying a red Aldi Bag for Life.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a man had his front teeth knocked out in a "nasty and sustained" attack in Moss Side.

    Officers want to speak to three men in connection with the assault, which happened on Claremont Road at about 16:20 on 10 September.

    After being punched and kicked a number of times, the victim stumbled across the road before collapsing.

    He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since made a full recovery.

    A man has been shot outside a pub in Greater Manchester.

    Witnesses said two men were seen brandishing a gun and threatening people in Hattersley Road, Hyde on Saturday evening.

    The 35-year-old victim left the scene and arrived at hospital with a stomach wound. His injuries are not life-threatening.

    Greater Manchester Police believe it to be a "targeted attack" and is appealing for witnesses.

    The Universal Credit benefits system is forcing some women to turn to sex work, charities say.

    The BBC has spoken to five charities and organisations in England who say there are increasing numbers of women on the credit (UC) in this position.

    Frank Field, MP for Birkenhead, also told MPs in October "some women have taken to the red-light district for the first time" as a result of UC.

    The government said: "No-one has to face hardship on Universal Credit."

    Single mum Julie from Merseyside - not her real name - never thought she would have to turn to sex work.

    But an eight-week wait for her first payment after transferring from her previous benefits left her "desperate" so when she was offered £30 for sex she took it.
