  9. From the scene: Klopp is centre of fun as bus continues routepublished at 19:03 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

As the bus inches along the parade route there's plenty of time for fans to pick out their favourite players and give them noisy acclaim.

But the roar becomes deafening when the European Cup works its way up to the front of the bus.

And the pressing question of "where's Jurgen"? is answered as the bus passes through. He's there casually perched across the back of the bus with a leg dangling over the edge.

He applauds the improvised chant "Jurgen Klopp's on top of a bus" and when he calls out for a scarf, a fan not only manages to throw one up to him but it lands around his neck in one move.

Suddenly as the bus passes a building covered in scaffolding and fans at every vantage point, all the players start whipping out their phones.

One fan has been spotted at the top of a very tall ladder dressed only in a Borat-style mankini. Everyone both inside and outside the bus develops an urgent need to attract Herr Klopp's attention to the spectacle. When Jurgen finally turns his head that way, he flashes a big smile while simultaneously covering his eyes in mock horror.

Tens of thousands of fans have heeded the advice to spread themselves out across the route. At the rough midway point on West Derby Road, waiting supporters have deduced that they needn't get too excited until they hear the whirr of the helicopter accompanying the team bus.

Between now and then, the challenge is to get the loftiest perch. There's not one bus stop that's yet to be clambered upon and claimed by five or six expectant Reds waiting for their heroes.

With the roads clear but no sign of the bus just yet, it was inevitable that someone among the waiting hordes on West Derby Road would produce a football and start an impromptu kickabout. It started small but more and more people are joining in.
