  12. Racing on at Great Yarmouth after inspectionpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 13 September 2016

Officials have given the go-ahead for six of the seven races planned for the first day of Great Yarmouth's Eastern Festival today.

An inspection was carried out by stewards an hour before the first race, after a patch of false ground was discovered near to the four-furlong marker.

The area, approximately 1m by 2m, wasn't there yesterday, says spokesman Glenn Tubby (pictured here), but "irrigation pipes for their own system and for the golf club" are close by... "we can't inspect while the racing is going on."

The final race, over five furlongs, is too close to the soft patch of ground so it's been cancelled.

    Quote Message

We feel that in the other races the jockeys have the opportunity to miss it, but we are uncomfortable with the last race as there is a maximum field, and as it is just after where the stalls open it doesn't give them opportunity to avoid it.
