The Norwich City boss was in confident mood at his Friday press conference ahead of Saturday's match at Derby.

The Canaries have had a run of four league defeats and they've slipped from the top of the Championship to sixth place.

The animal rights group PETA, external has voiced concerns at plans to have two live reindeer at the Swaffham Christmas lights switch-on today.

Kirsty Henderson, from the charity, says there's "nothing festive about taking reindeer out of their natural habitat and parading them in front of noisy crowds of people". 

But town clerk Richard Bishop says the campaigners have missed the point. "This is about the spirit of Christmas and reindeers and Christmas go together".

The Justice Secretary and South West Norfolk MP Elizabeth Truss has been at Norwich prison this afternoon.

She's meeting students from City College, Norwich who have been doing work experience at the jail.

The visit comes just weeks after the justice secretary announced plans to recruit 2,500 extra prison officers across the country following an increase in violence and complaints from staff.

The Ministry of Justice hopes that schemes like the one being run by City College will encourage more young people to consider the prison service as a career

Bus subsidies in Norfolk have been slashed by a third since 2010 and campaigners warn of further cuts to come.

Norfolk County Council has reduced its financial support by £1.33m over the last six years and the Campaign for Better Transport says tight budgets mean more cuts are in the pipeline.

Research by BBC Sunday Politics East shows £13m has been cut from bus services across the BBC East region, where spending has dropped by 10% to £3.64 per passenger.

The Bus Bill, currently going through Parliament, will give local councils more of a say in bus services – allowing collaboration with private companies and franchising opportunities.

But some of the new powers would only be granted to councils with elected mayors.

Lianna Etkind, of the Campaign for Better Transport, external, was against that proviso.

“We think that whether or not you have an elected mayor, you should be able to depend on a regular, frequent and affordable bus service,” she said.

Police investigating a fatal crash which happened at Horsham St Faith last weekend are appealing for help to trace the driver of a 4x4.

Brothers Sam and Shane Nobbs were killed in the collision, which happened on the A140 to the north of Norwich at about 08:00 on Saturday. 

Their black Honda Civic, travelling towards Norwich, and a red LDV Maxus travelling in the opposite direction, were involved in crash.

The driver of the van, a man in his 40s, suffered serious life-changing injuries.

Officers are keen to trace the driver of a silver or grey 4x4 which was travelling on the A140 between the Northern Distributor Road and Waterloo Road, towards Aylsham.

Plans to force dog owners to put their pets on a lead on a stretch of Great Yarmouth beach have been dropped.

The borough council had looked at imposing an order between North Denes and Caister. 

But after a public petition, many locals unhappy at the proposals turned out in force at a meeting of the environment committee.

A 32-year-old man has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely and given a 12-year jail term for raping a woman in south Norfolk.

Norfolk Constabulary launched an investigation after being contacted by the victim in April 2015.

Det Con Sally Barker praised the bravery of the victim in coming forward, saying the case had had "a considerable impact on the victim and her family".

Don Gallier, of Crane Close, Dereham, was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court today.

A man has been jailed for 12 years after being convicted of raping a woman in south Norfolk.

Don Gallier, of Crane Close, Dereham, was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court today. He'd previously been found guilty of three counts of rape and one of actual bodily harm following a six-day trial in October.

The offences took place in south Norfolk between July 2011 and April 2015, on a woman over the age of 16.

Gallier, 32, was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

Norwich City head to Derby County this weekend as they attempt to stop their Championship slide.

They've lost their last four league matches and are currently sixth in the table.

At the pre-match press conference a short while ago, winger Jacob Murphy spoke about his delight in getting a new long-term contract at his boyhood club.

He told our sports reporter, Rob Butler, that his twin brother Josh hopefully won't be far behind in signing a new deal. Murphy added he's "not here about the money... I'm 21, and I'm here to play football".

Manager Alex Neil, who's been given the backing of the Norwich City board, told the media there were "no issues between him and Bradley Johnson - he was the model pro when he was here".  

Johnson joined tomorrow's opponents Derby from Norwich last year.

Asked about recent media criticism, Neil gave this response: "A lot of the media write what they think the fans want to hear for likes and re-tweets".
