  5. Children's boss 'right to quit'published at 10:41 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

    Caroline Kingdon
    BBC Local Live

Today a new interim boss is being brought in to sort out Norfolk's troubled children's services department, after director Michael Rosen quit last week.

The North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb has been working with foster carers in the county who've been considering taking legal action against the authority, claiming children were wrongly taken away from their carers by the children's services department.

He thinks Mr Rosen has made the right decision.

    Quote Message

The work this department does is of really critical importance, if you think about looked-after children, and the fact that the department has found it impossible to convince the outside regulators that it's made sufficient improvements is enough for me to conclude there has to be change at the top."

  6. The latest on 'dead' devolution dealpublished at 10:06 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

    Vikki Irwin
    BBC Radio Suffolk political reporter

Councils across Suffolk and Norfolk are expecting a letter from the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, external, Sajid Javid, confirming the devolution deal is over.

It was widely reported on Friday that plans had been scrapped, following the latest rejection of the proposals by King's Lynn & West Norfolk District Council.

    Devolution papers

It's been very much an "on, off, on and off again" deal, but to sum it up, the original plan was for Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire to have a joint agreement, then Cambridgeshire decided they wanted to go it alone, and the other two neighbouring counties attempted a deal of their own.

The sticking point was the directly-elected mayor, which some of Norfolk's politicians didn't think we needed.

In June, four out of seven of Norfolk's district councils voted against the idea, which prompted a response from the government that the deal would be off if one more council backed out.

This is what happened last week, when West Norfolk & King's Lynn Borough Council voted against the proposals.

Suffolk County Council is planning to continue with its meetings, and hopes something can be salvaged from 18 months of negotiations.

  7. Suffolk-only devolution proposals back on the agenda?published at 09:45 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

Councils in Suffolk are hoping to salvage something from the Norfolk and Suffolk devolution deal which the government is likely to say is dead later on this morning.

    Colin Noble

Five of the seven councils in Norfolk rejected the plans, which would have included a new directly-elected mayor serving both counties.

Now MPs and councillors in Suffolk want to explore a one-county deal.

The Conservative leader of Suffolk County Council, external, Colin Noble, said: "There is a feeling that we would like to go ahead.

"We would like to put to the secretary of state a Suffolk-only deal, but it is not just Suffolk only - it is Suffolk-based.

"[For] other areas that can see the advantage of devolution, then we want to talk to those areas about how we would take a Suffolk-based devolution deal forward."

It is believed this idea could be of interest to councils in Norfolk which had voted to back the devolution proposals.
