A Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman says crews called to a building blaze in Gorleston couldn't see the property when they arrived due to the amount of smoke in the area.

The blaze, in a terraced house on Lower Cliff Road, was believed to have been burning for several hours before emergency services were alerted and arrived at about 04:45 GMT.

It had burnt through the roof to the flat above a neighbouring fish and chip shop, whose owner had been unaware of the fire until crews banged on his door.

The blaze was brought under control and nobody was injured.
