A consultation is to be launched into plans to restrict shrimp fishing in the Wash.

The body which oversees fishing along the coast, the Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (EIFCA), wants to close off 14% of the current shrimp catching grounds in order to preserve the seabed.

The proposal has angered some in the industry who say it could affect their livelihoods, but EIFCA says it believes that with so much of the Wash still open, catches won't be affected.

The force believes drug dealers have moved from places including London to rural areas where they believe they can "safely" deal.

One house in Great Yarmouth has been closed down for three months to prevent alleged drug trading and anti-social behaviour.

Assistant Chief Constable Mike Fawcett says dealers use a tactic called 'cuckooing' to find themselves a base to trade locally, and often use vulnerable young people and teenagers to work for them.

"Drug dealers by virtue of threats or by giving drugs to people take over their address so that address becomes a location from which they start to deal from," he said.

"Part of an offender’s success in keeping the drugs in the county at the moment is to prey on people who are too frightened and afraid to speak up about how they are being abused."

Assistant Chief Constable Mike Fawcett said: "We will not only be about targetting criminals who have been travelling into Norfolk from places such as London but also supporting those vulnerable members of our community who are being taken advantage of."
