The funeral has been held this afternoon for a Gorleston couple killed on their way back from a Harley Davidson rally in Scotland.

John and Sharon Cooper, who were 58 and 56, died in the crash last month.

A procession of hundreds of the motorbikes and mourners set out from Gorleston clifftop and through the town to its crematorium.

Piers Hall, from the East Coast Harley Club, organised the tribute and said the couple were people who "always had a smile on their face".

He said they were on their first trip to Scotland and the organisation was there to "provide support to the family because we are a family club".

Cloudy with outbreaks of showery rain but becoming drier later with a few clear intervals.

Temperatures will only fall to 12C (54F) in a strengthening northwesterly wind but Saturday may start cloudy.

Any patchy rain will soon clear to leave a mostly dry day with sunny spells and areas of cloud but just the small chance of an isolated light shower.

Photos have emerged of the rescue operation, external to pull a man out of Breydon Water this morning after he tried to escape from police officers.

The man was said to have been "very cold and tired" after giving himself up to a Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service boat.

The HM Coastguard said the man went into the water before walking across the mudflats which then started to flood.

Norfolk Police said he was checked over by paramedics and then arrested on suspicion of assault and theft following an incident at the nearby Vauxhall Holiday Park earlier.

A judge who has jailed a former detective for 28 days told him he was not corrupt.

David Phelps, 42, of Lowestoft was found guilty earlier this month of intending to pervert the course of justice following a drugs arrest.

Phelps was sacked from his job at Suffolk Police following his conviction.

Passing sentence at Norwich Crown Court, Judge Anthony Bate said there was "no suggestion of a corrupt motive".

"You were just trying to save time," he said.

Judge Bate noted that Phelps had been dismissed and reminded by the chief constable that the core values of the police were honesty and integrity.

A former police officer has been jailed for 28 days for intending to pervert the course of justice.

Phelps was a detective with Suffolk Police but was sacked for gross misconduct.

Kevin Baumber, mitigating for Phelps, told Judge Anthony Bate that the offence was “not malicious or sinister” and “there is nothing he more regrets in his life”.

The court heard he had been looking after his poorly mother and had gone through a separation.

Hundreds of motorbikes have been parked on Gorleston's clifftop as bikers prepared to pay their respects to a couple who died in Scotland.

Sharon and John Cooper, from the town, had been taking part in a motorbike rally in Scotland when they were killed in a crash on the way home in May.

The procession, involving hundreds of motorbikes and mourners Piers Hall and Simone Gallant (pictured above), was expected to ride from the cliffs past the James Paget Hospital, where Sharon worked, and on to the crematorium for the funeral service.

There's been a marked fall in the number of four to seven year olds being taught in overcrowded classrooms in Norfolk.

New figures from the Department for Education show that 685 key stage one pupils are in classes which breach the limit of 30. Last year the figure was 1,187.

Norfolk county council says it's worked hard to provide an extra 4600 primary school places in the county over the last six years.

Although education experts believe that chlldren of all ages benefit from being taught in small classes, the law only requires four to seven year olds to be in classrooms with fewer than 30 pupils.

A man has been pulled to safety after entering Breydon Water at Great Yarmouth this morning.

Police, fire and coastguards were called to Acle New Road at 09:30 this morning following concerns for the man's safety.

He is said to be unharmed.

Two mascots which had been stolen from a display at a family theme park have been returned.

Soft toys of Woody Bear and Ronnie the Raccoon had gone missing from the gift shop at Pleasurewood Hills, Lowestoft, at about 14:35 on Wednesday.

Staff said the characters were created specially for the park's opening in 1983 and carry "sentimental value".

A mental health trust has said changes have been made to services after an inquest into a law student's death heard how urgent referrals had not been properly acted upon.

The body of Katrina Rolph, 20, of Cawston, was discovered in woodland near Holt last year after she gave up her studies due to physical ill health, anxiety and depression.

The Norwich inquest heard how her father couldn't access help on her behalf and information from a psychiatrist's visit was not passed on due to "human error".

Following the inquest, the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, external said its referrals process had been reviewed and access to out-of-hours crisis care for young people had been increased.

In a statement, the trust's director of operations, Debbie White, said: "We deeply regret we did not see Katrina following referrals made to our services and our attempts to see her were not robust enough."

After the inquest, her mother Louise Hutchinson-Rolph said: "Katrina knew what she was capable of but it became harder each day to feel able to achieve it due to her failing health.

"Katrina went to her death not knowing why she felt like she did."

Norwich City have unveiled their new home kit today ahead of the 2017-18 season.

The club has said the new attire was inspired by its well-loved Admiral kit from the late 1970s, but features a modern twist.

Canary fans will be able to buy it from 08:00 tomorrow, before players wear the kit for the first time when they face Brighton in their last pre-season friendly at Carrow Road on 29 July.

The mother of a student found dead last year has said it was a "true tragedy that should never have happened".

The inquest into the death of Katrina Rolph, 20, of Cawston, heard she had been suffering from serious physical conditions, anxiety and depression which forced her to quit her law studies.

She was found dead in October in woods near Holt after disappearing from her parents' rented holiday cottage at Hempstead three days earlier.

Area coroner Yvonne Blake heard her father called a Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, external crisis team about his daughter's suicidal thoughts in March, but was told they needed to speak to the patient instead.

Two urgent referrals were later made by Katrina's GP. The first was referred to a well-being team, but the second - after she was examined at home by a psychiatrist - was not acted upon due to "human error", the inquest heard.

Ms Blake gave a narrative verdict and said: "Katrina had taken her own life while the balance of her mind was disturbed and therefore her intent was unclear."

More than 80,000 people turned out for Royal Norfolk Show, external, the organisers have said.

The UK's largest two-day county show ran on Wednesday and Thursday at the sprawling Costessey showground on the outskirts of Norwich.

There was a deluge of rain on the first day, but provisional figures have shown that visitor numbers do not appear to have been affected.

Thousands of music lovers enjoyed an anthemic evening on the first of this long weekend's Forest Live outdoor concerts at Thetford Forest.

Former Beta Band main man Steve Mason opened a not-too-hot, not-too-chilly evening at High Lodge with a short set of songs mainly from his latest Meet The Humans album, and threw in the BB classic Dry The Rain at the end.

Elbow frontman Guy Garvey was in his usual bonhomous mood as the band played a selection of songs from across their career, climaxing with A Day Like This which prompted arguably the best of many crowd singalongs.

Olly Murs tonight, Rick Astley tomorrow and Clean Bandit on Sunday have a lot to live up to for this year's run of four concerts in the forest.

Katrina Rolph, from Cawston, was found dead in woodland in north Norfolk last October.

The inquest into her death on Thursday heard urgent referrals had been made to the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust , externalbut she was not given help.

The Trust said it deeply regretted "attempts to see her... were not robust enough".

It also said it has made a number of changes to improve its service.
