  3. County council budget cuts 'could cost thousands of jobs'published at 10:40 British Summer Time 26 June 2017

Plans to cut £124.9m from county council budgets over four years could cost thousands of jobs, the union Unison has said.

A report to the council's policy and resources committee on 3 July predicts the authority will have to save a further £100m on top of savings of £24.9m already agreed. Details were announced last week.

    County Hall

Jonathan Dunning, of Unison, said: "I am not surprised at some estimates that job losses could be as high as 2,500 in the wider economy.

"These would be jobs at the council and also indirectly at other businesses in the county because those made redundant would have less money to spend.

"Also, the major part of the county's budget goes into staff salaries and paying for commissioned services so cuts will hit these."

The council has not announced any job loss figures to the union, but Mr Dunning expects these to be revealed in the autumn when plans turn into proposals.

The final numbers are likely to emerge in the new year when budgets are presented to the council for approval, he said.

Cliff Jordan, leader of the Conservative-run council, said on Friday that the measures would help the council meet its "ambitious plans". He said that money would be raised from commercial activities.

Not many football teams can boast a chairman who has a tattoo of the club's badge, but Cromer Town can.

Jenna Bedwell answered an SOS call after the Anglian Combination club almost went out of business at the end of the season.

Despite suffering from ME, Bedwell has taken over as chairman, having been first team physio and ladies team manager.

The new chairman told us: "Life is for living so I could succumb to my illness and stay in bed all day, or I could keep pushing. The reason I've got to where I am is because I've carried on pushing."

  5. Resident concerned that flats failed fire safety testspublished at 09:03 British Summer Time 26 June 2017

The revelation that cladding on a block of flats built near the Norwich City Football Club stadium in 2012 has failed fire safety tests has created concerns among the residents.

Brennan Bank failed the tests carried out on Friday. Four more blocks of flats are being tested.

The tests are being carried out in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster in London.

Broadland Housing says cladding at Brennan Bank, a six-storey block, contains aluminium composite material.

Extra fire safety measures have been put in place there, and at four neighbouring blocks, which are also thought to be affected but have yet to be tested.

Brennan Bank resident Joe Phiri told the BBC: "It's a bit of a shame considering what happened to the other one that this sort of insulation was put into this block.

"It's a bit scary as well to be honest. We've got cladding in here that could easily catch fire."
