  14. Trader disputes butcher's attack was 'hate crime'published at 17:18 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

An investigation is under way after a brick was thrown through the window of a Norwich butcher's shop.

The attack took place late on Tuesday night at Haider Halal Butchers on Magdalen Street. Police are treating it as a hate crime.

Eric Kirk, chairman of the local Traders' Association, disputes that.

    Quote Message

We have some 20-plus different nationalities on this street and incidents of this nature are rare... Nowadays people are too quick to jump and add things, hate crimes and incidents, in this area we don't see it."

The parents of a seven-year-old girl who drowned at her best friend's birthday pool party have paid tribute to their daughter.

Livial and Glenda Kantengule say they are still devastated following the passing of their "beloved daughter", Maya Grace Kantengule.

"The pain is still unbearable and even though it's been over a year it feels like we relive her passing every day.

"We hope this inquest will provide answers to what happened on the day, even though it is hard to admit that no explanation will bring back our daughter.

"We miss her dearly and she has left a void that is difficult to fill."

  17. Girl's pool party death ruled an accidentpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

An inquest jury has ruled that a seven-year-old girl's death at a birthday pool party was an accident.

Maya Kantengule was found at the bottom of a pool at Waveney River centre holiday park in Burgh St Peter on 1 May last year.

    Waveney River Centre

She died later in hospital with her parents at her bedside.

Norfolk Coroner's Court had heard that there was no lifeguard on duty.

Her father, Livial Kantengule, had told the inquest he believed his daughter could swim as she had received swimming lessons at school.

In a written statement, teaching assistant Jaqueline Bell said that Maya, from Oulton Broad, was not a confident swimmer and was "nervous" in the water.

  18. Wrong horse wins at the racespublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

More now on that controversy at Great Yarmouth when it was found the winner of the opening two-year race was in fact a different horse.

It was only discovered after Mandarin Princess won at odds of 50-1.

Stablemate Millie's Kiss was due to run in the nine-furlong handicap later on the card, but was subsequently withdrawn.

A report by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) says the stewards held an inquiry to "consider the circumstances surrounding the identification of Mandarin Princess, which was presenting at the sampling unit for routine testing."

The scan identified the horse to be Millie's Kiss, trainer Charlie McBride's other runner in race four.

The BHA says it interviewed the trainer, stable groom, veterinary officer and equine welfare integrity officer responsible for the sampling unit.

Having heard their evidence, the matter was referred to the head office of the BHA. It ordered Millie's Kiss to be withdrawn from race four.

  19. Mix up at the racespublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    Paul Hayes
    BBC Radio Norfolk

It's dramatic enough when a 50 to 1 winner comes in at the races.

But there was even more drama today when Mandarin Princess came in at those odds in the 3.15 at Great Yarmouth... Yet turned out to be a completely different horse.

Stablemate Millie's Kiss had been given the wrong number, causing chaos after the race.

Punters at the racecourse have told us that they've never seen anything like it.
