    It's just over a week until the start of the football season, with fixtures returning on the first weekend in August.

    Norwich City's first game will be away to Fulham on 5 August. Eight days later, they host Sunderland at Carrow Road.

    On Throwback Thursday, we've looked through the archives and found this photo showing the construction of the Carrow Road ground in July 1935.

    Two Norfolk bishops will be taking part in the Norwich Pride march this Saturday expressing their support for the LGBT community.

    The Bishop of Thetford, Alan Winton and the former Bishop of Bolton, David Gillett (pictured left at a recent London Pride march), who now lives in Norfolk, will be supporting and taking part, external in the march.

  5. Butcher's a victim of misfortune for second timepublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    A police investigation is being carried out into a suspected hate crime incident at a butcher's shop in Norwich earlier this week.

    Mohammed Haider, who runs the shop on Magdalen Street, says that whoever threw the brick at the premises would have caused more damage if a neighbouring business owner hadn't been nearby.

    It's the second time the business has fallen victim to misfortune.

    Last year, it was badly damaged when a car went through the shop front.

    Damage to a butcher's shop in Norwich is being dealt with as hate crime by Norfolk police.

    Shortly before 23:30 on Tuesday, a brick was thrown at the Norwich Halal Butcher shop in Magdalen Street, causing damage to glass in the front door (pictured).

    PC Dave Block says they're following up several lines of inquiry.

  7. Health and Safety notice issued following girl's drowningpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    Bosses of a swimming pool where a seven-year-old girl drowned were issued with an improvement notice by the Health and Safety Executive after the incident.

    Waveney River Centre was asked to provide a specific risk assessment for children's pool parties.

    Managing director James Knight said they thought their existing procedures were adequate, but called in experts.

    They put in place better documentation but the centre decided to stop pool hire altogether. It only did five to six a year, said Mr Knight.

    Over the years he been spotted in playing fields and schools, attending some very injured people.

  9. Drowning inquest hears evidence from pool bosspublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    An inquest into the death of a seven-year-old girl who drowned at the Waveney River Centre in May last year has heard evidence from its managing director.

    James Knight told the jury of "huge awareness" on safety and risk assessment at the holiday park in Burgh St Peter. Based on Health and Safety guidance, there was no supervision at the pool.

    Maya Kantengule, from Oulton Broad, was pulled from the bottom of the pool at a birthday party for her best friend. She was declared dead later that day at the James Paget University Hospital.

    The inquest at Norfolk Coroner's Court continues.

    Up and coming acts from across the BBC East region are playing the Cambridge Folk Festival, external, which starts today.

    Callum Morgan of Morganway said: "We've found a number of folk clubs and folk enthusiasts around the country have been so welcoming and excited about what we do, and I think it just shows how open-minded folk fans can be."

    Norwich City's James Maddison says he is already building a close bond with potential central midfield partner Harrison Reed.

    The 20-year-old was impressive alongside Southampton loanee Reed in City's latest pre-season success, a 2-0 win at Charlton on Tuesday.

    "Harrison's taken to me, he hasn't left my side since he got here. He's a good lad, I'm getting on really well with him. We've got a connection in training.... and hopefully we can strike that up throughout the season."

    One of UKIP's MEPs for the east of England, Patrick O'Flynn, is standing down from his party's front bench in an apparent row over the future direction of the party.

    Patrick O'Flynn says he doesn't want to be economic spokesman anymore because he's worried that the party is becoming too right wing.

    "I have always argued for UKIP to be at the common sense centre of politics, rather than defined as being on the right wing," he said in a statement.

    "It is clear to me that UKIP's activist base wishes to go in a more libertarian, shrink-the-state and Thatcherite direction.

    "It is regrettable that the more centrist approach argued by the likes of me ....is falling by the wayside."

    Mr O'Flynn, a former newspaper journalist, was one of the new breed of party activists who had influential contacts and made UKIP look more professional.

    One of the party's "big hitters", he has often appeared on television debates and was seen by some as being a future leader.

    He says he will stay on as an MEP and looks forward to seeing brexit being completed.

  13. Former chief constable under investigationpublished at 10:43 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    A former chief constable of Norfolk is being investigated over allegations of gross professional misconduct.

    Phil Gormley held the position between 2010 and 2013. He's now the chief constable of Police Scotland.

    Mr Gormley has confirmed he's being investigated and is cooperating fully with the investigation.

    No details of the complaint against him haven't been made public, but the BBC understands they relate to his conduct towards a more junior officer.

    Every year thousands of visitors flock to the RSPB reserve at Snettisham, external to see the spectacular sight of tens of thousands of Knots performing displays over the mudflats of The Wash.

    But not one of these Knots has a name... so here's how you can help each of the waders to be recognised as an individual.

    As part of the RSPB's crowdfunding appeal for a new hide at the reserve, its giving people the opportunity to "Name a Knot" in return for a donation.

    Site manager Jim Scott says when someone has named their Knot, they'll be able to find it among the other birds... but he does admit they all look rather similar.

  15. Prince's last chopper shift: Service tweets thankspublished at 10:29 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    So as we've mentioned, today will see the Duke of Cambridge work his last shift with the East Anglia Air Ambulance.

    The night shift, which begins at 16:30, will bring an end to two years with the emergency service, which is a charity supporting the NHS East of England Ambulance Service.

  16. Wheelchair basketball player aims for England teampublished at 09:57 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    The parents of a young boy with a rare bone disease are trying to raise enough money so he can play wheelchair basketball at the top level.

    Dan Holehouse, who lives with his family in Great Yarmouth, was diagnosed with a rare bone disease when he was four-years old. He's had 10 operations so far, and has extremely limited mobility, spending most of his time in a wheelchair.

    Two years ago 11-year-old Dan joined the Norwich Lowriders, external, a wheelchair basketball team. He's developed a passion for the sport, playing in a national league around the country.

    One day he'd like to be in the Paralympics, but to help him reach his goal he needs a better chair to play in.

    Dan says the RGK Elite basketball wheelchair is the "best of its kind". It costs nearly £5000, but dad Matt says the wheelchair is adjustable and will last Dan many years.

  17. Norwich Pride celebrationspublished at 09:51 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    This weekend Norwich will be a rainbow of colours for the Norwich Pride celebrations, external.

    They'll be particularly poignant this year, as it's 50 years since the Sexual Offences Act, external was passed, which made it legal for some men to have a physical relationship.

    As well as cultural events marking the anniversary the partial legalisation of homosexuality, there's a special exhibition at the Bridewell Museum.

    It's dominated by the "Duvet of Love, external", a vibrant display made of hundreds of different coloured badges, with the black ones from the LGBT community.

    Made by local activist David Shenton, it depicts two men embracing and its overall message is love.

    David collected the badges, and displayed them on his wall in a rainbow formation before arranging them on the duvet cover in the 1990s.

    The aim of the display is to represent the city coming together, holding hands through Pride.

    The Duke of Cambridge is due to carry out his final shift for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, external (EAAA) this evening.

    His last duty as a paid pilot for the EAAA will be the night shift from his base at Cambridge Airport.

    In a letter published in the Eastern Daily Press, external, Prince William said he had a "profound respect" for those who serve in our emergency services.

    "I am hugely grateful for having had this experience," he said.

    After two years, he is stepping down to take on more royal duties on behalf of the Queen.

    A former RAF search and rescue pilot, the Duke was part of a team including doctors and paramedics providing emergency medical cover across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

    King's Lynn Town came from behind to beat Ipswich Town's under 23 team last night.

    Ryan Hawkins, Leon Mettam and a brace from Toby Hilliard gave The Linnets a 4-3 victory at The Walks.

    The West Norfolk side have friendlies with Gorleston and Lowestoft before the start of the Southern Premier season in the middle of August.
