Joe will also receive three poetry mentoring sessions, as well as the opportunity to perform his work at three events over the coming year, including the launch of the Young Norfolk Arts Festival in 2018.

Over 150 applications were received for the Young Norfolk Writing Competition, a partnership between the county council, Writers' Centre, Norwich, external, and the Young Norfolk Arts Festival, external.

Sophie Scott-Brown, of the Norwich Writers' Centre, says Joe's poem impressed the judges with its brutal honesty and raw emotion.

  10. New vehicle to help police hits the beachpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 24 July 2017

    Jill Bennett
    BBC Radio Norfolk

A new All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) will allow police officers in west Norfolk to get to places they'd never be able to get to in conventional 4x4s.

The ATV, complete with police livery, will mainly patrol Hunstanton beach, but it will also assist them in rural and hard to reach areas.

    The ATV on Hunstanton beach

The specialised vehicle, which cost £9,500, will allow officers to get on to the beach more quickly.

"We have a problem in the summer season, children go missing on the beach, the tide is out, and the only way to access the beach would be for officers on foot going down to the shoreline," Insp John Bane said.

"This vehicle allows them to get there quickly and safely, pick up the children quickly and return them to their parents."

The ATV will be used around the year to assist searches in rural areas as it can cover the ground a lot quicker than other vehicles.

Being far lighter than other 4x4s, and with a lower ground pressure, the vehicle will do less damage to crops and fields.

We've bought a similar machine to those used by local gamekeepers, so we know it's worthy of the task it needs to do."

  11. RAF Lakenheath takes steps to reduce risks following 'near miss'published at 15:59 British Summer Time 24 July 2017

RAF Lakenheath has responded to a report revealing a "near miss" off the Norfolk coast involving two F-15 jets from the Suffolk base at the beginning of the year.

First Lieutenant Elias Small, chief of public affairs for 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath, said: "The 48th Fighter Wing cooperated fully with this investigation and understands the importance of operating safely and within UK airspace regulations.

"As recommended by the UK Airprox Board, we have taken several steps to help reduce the risk of similar events in the future.

"First, we reviewed how we distribute information to our aircrews to ensure they are aware of all planned airspace activity.

"Second, we have reviewed our standard flight plans to ensure they are in line with airspace boundaries and reporting points.

"Finally, we are exploring a program for new airmen assigned to RAF Lakenheath to visit RAF Swanwick to help provide additional awareness of local airspace limitations and concerns.

"Our pilots and aircrew work to sharpen their skills every day, and we will continue to emphasize flight safety as part of our training programs."

"I grew up by the seaside, I feel at home in the ocean, especially underwater - I find it really calming... as soon as I found out you could actually do it as a profession, I thought I have to do this."

Hannah trained in the Philippines and in June she went to the first ever mermaid camp in the UK.
