The attack happened between 01:35 and 01:45 on Thursday, 28 July, but the details have only just been released.

Detectives say he was punched in the face by another man and knocked unconscious in the middle of the road.

He suffered a fracture to the back of his skull and needed 12 stitches for a cut lip.

His attacker is believed to have run towards Gold Street with two men, who had originally been involved in an argument with the victim.

The three men are described as slim with short, dark hair. One wore a blue denim-style shirt and blue denim jeans. Another wore a grey hoodie and dark slouch-style jeans. The man who allegedly attacked the victim wore a red T-shirt, skinny dark jeans and black shoes.

The pitch at Glamorgan just before the covers came off this morning

It's a little damp at Swansea this morning so the start has been delayed.

Northants have come in for criticism having prioritised one-day cricket to such an extent that their first choice XI has not once been picked for a Championship game this season. Injuries also have played their part.

But Northants will say their policy has paid dividends with two one-day quarter-finals.

There is live coverage here when the match begins.

Across the UK, more than 11,000 jobs are being lost after the retailer was wound up earlier this year.

There have been calls that former owner of the store chain, Sir Philip Green, should "write a cheque" to cover BHS' £571m pension deficit. The billionaire says he is in discussions with the Pensions Regulator to try and find a solution.

The BHS Home & Kids shop at St James' Retail Park, Northampton, will close later this month.

Following Edward Tenniswood's sentencing, Det Sgt Kim Jackson read a statement on behalf of India Chipchase's family outside Birmingham Crown Court.

"The police's guidance and support has been outstanding. India's friends have also been a bedrock of support for us. Everyone has gone out of their way to help us," he said.

"We would also like to thank Northampton's community for their positive attitude and respect towards us. This has been a high profile case, with coverage across the world, but our fellow townspeople have respected our privacy and given us the space to grieve as a family, and with our friends.

"We are still only part way through this process and we are grateful that justice has been done."

  16. India Chipchase: Judge says murder testimony in court 'added to the anguish' of victim's familypublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 2 August 2016

    Mousumi Bakshi
    BBC Look East

Earlier at Birmingham Crown Court, Mr Justice Saunders said of Edward Tenniswood, jailed for the murder and rape of India Chipchase, that he "picked on" the 20-year-old "because she was obviously drunk and obviously so drunk that she was unable to care for herself".

He said Tenniswood didn't take her home in a taxi as he told her he would. "Instead he took her to his house and there he raped and killed her."

The judge continued: "The killing was in my judgement entirely deliberate." He added that Tenniswood's defence, often gratuitous in detail, had "no doubt added to the anguish of the family".

The judge said: "While I cannot be sure he went to the nightclub to try and find a vulnerable woman that he could use for his own satisfaction, I am satisfied that as soon as he saw India he formed that intention.

"I have no doubt that he was very persuasive and convinced India in her befuddled state to come with him, promising her that she would be safe.

"I am satisfied that he did intend to kill and while he does present as a strange man, I have no evidence that there was some mental illness that might lessen his responsibility for this awful crime."

  17. More beds a 'priority' for Northampton General, says hospital bosspublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 2 August 2016

    Pete Cooper
    BBC Local Live

The chief operating officer of Northampton General Hospital says she is "disappointed", after one of the county's health commissioners described plans for a new 60-bed ward as a "worrying development".

The Nene Clinical Commissioning Group believed spending money in that way would mean less cash to help move people out of hospital who don't need to be there.

    NGH

Deborah Needham from the hospital said it needed to work with the CCG "to make sure patients get discharged when they are fit to go home".

But she added that her "priority" was to "make sure there enough beds for everyone attending A&E".
