    Charley Hull is tied third, two shots off the lead, after two rounds of the women's Olympic golf.

    The Northamptonshire player, who competes at Woburn Gold Club, shot a five-under round of 66 to move to eight under, two adrift of South Korean leader Inbee Park.

    American Stacy Lewis produced the best round of the day - an eight-under-par 63. She is one shot behind Park at the halfway stage.

  3. Court hearing due this morning on Daventry travellerspublished at 08:23 British Summer Time 19 August 2016

    Police have described the group of travellers who've set up on a piece of grassland in Daventry as "disgraceful and unacceptable" following outbreaks of disorder in the town centre. 

    A hearing before magistrates later this morning will decide if they will be forced to leave.   

    The BBC has contacted some of the travellers. They wouldn't be interviewed but did say they were planning to move on Monday.

    A court hearing is set to start at 10:00 to see if a group of travellers will have leave a piece of grassland in Daventry. 

    About 20 caravans are currently on the site next to Eastern Way, after they arrived last week.  

    If the order is given it means they will have to leave within 24 hours.

    Burton Latimer's Charley Hull is just two shots behind the clubhouse leader in the second round of the women's golf.

    Hull birdied the first for the second day running. She bogied the second, but scored further birdies on the sixth and seventh to leave her five under par.

  12. 'Estimated marks' for A-level students after bag theft, newspaper reportspublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 18 August 2016

    The Northampton Chronicle and Echo, external is also reporting this afternoon that 20 students from Caroline Chisholm School have been told their A-level history grades were estimated after papers were stolen from an examiner on a train.

    The school told the paper all the pupils got university places following the release of their results, but some will not be going to their preferred institution.

    The Northampton Chronicle and Echo is highlighting particularly impressive results at local schools.

    All six PE students at Kingthorpe College, external were awarded a distinction, and more than half of the grades given to Northampton High School, external pupils were A* or A.

    The Evening Telegraph reports that East Northamptonshire College, external has recorded its highest-ever pass rate and celebrates the achievement of Emma Johnson at Lodge Park Academy, external, whose distinctions earned her a place on a fashion design course.

    The Daventry Express says there was a "very stressful anticipation" for the first-ever A-level results at Daventry UTC, external, but all seven sixth-formers got the results they needed to move into careers or further education.

    About 30 motorhomes are still on the Eastern Way playing fields in Daventry, even though the local council served a notice to quit by 09:30 this morning.

    The police say they'll try to get a court order at a hearing tomorrow to compel the travellers to leave the site.

    Some of the travellers have suggested to the BBC that they plan to stay until Monday.

    A number of residents I've spoken to say they'd be glad to see them leave, although others say the visitors haven't affected them at all.

    Northamptonshire are making slow progress in their One-Day cup quarter-final match against Surrey.

    Josh Cobb amassed 66 runs for the hosts at Wantage Road before being bowled by Tom Curran, and his younger brother Sam dispatched Alex Wakely for 45.

    With 42 overs gone, Northants were 220 for 8.

    The University of Northampton has taken hundreds of calls already today from students who've received their A-level results, but haven't been offered places on degree programmes.

    They're being matched with vacancies on courses in a process known as "clearing".

    Tutors are available for prospective students to talk to about their options.

    Antony Bounds, the university's head of admissions, said: "We're hoping to fill about 350 to 400 places.

    "It's been a really positive recruitment drive for the institution."

    The mysterious vegetable plotter of old Northampton town has revealed her true identity.

    Yesterday we told you about flowers and vegetables sprouting along Stimpson Avenue in Abington, but no-one we asked seemed to know who was using their green fingers to brighten up the road.

    Now Zoe Smith, a Labour borough councillor, has come forward. She told us she wanted to "add a bit of cheer" and thought it would be "fun to create a mini free food resource" for residents. 

    She buys the plants from a nearby garden centre and tends the flowers, tomatoes, runner beans and beetroot in her spare time.

    "I was surprised to see I was 'a mystery'," she said. "But it's lovely that it's getting people talking to each other."

    Three teenagers have been attacked and robbed in Danes Camp in Northampton, with one having a knife held to his stomach.

    It happened on Monday evening in an alleyway at the back of the Trilogy Gym.

    The victims, who were in their late teens, were walking towards Sandhurst Close when they were approached from behind by a group of six to eight men, aged from 15 to 20.

    All three teenagers were assaulted and it's believed one of the attackers may have had a knuckle-duster. Bags and phones were also taken.

    The suspects are described as black or mixed race and wearing hooded tops and bandanas.
