A couple of wickets have changed the complexion of this morning's session. Steven Crook and Azharullah struck twice in four balls to bring Northants back into the session and nearer to the scoreboard they were looking for having chosen to bowl first.

But now we have the partnership that everyone wants to see at the crease: Moeen Ali and Joe Clarke together. Is there a more attractive pair to watch batting?

As we reported earlier, the BBC has learned Northampton South MP David Mackintosh faces a deselection fight over his role in the Northampton Town 'missing millions' saga.

The BBC has also obtained a previous internal Conservative Party assessment, stating Mr Mackintosh was unsuitable to be an MP.

The document, written in 2013, was compiled by a regional party official as the local association considered candidates to succeed the then sitting MP Brian Binley.

It stated Mr Mackintosh "was not of the calibre to be an MP".

Mr Mackintosh was subsequently selected to participate in an open primary in December 2013, which was held at Sixfields Stadium, before going on to win the seat at the 2015 general election.

He was elected to Parliament with a majority of 3,793.

Mr Mackintosh has said he intends to stand for re-election.

  6. Moeen at the crease against Northantspublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Worcestershire 20-1 v Northants

    Alex Winter
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

A very pleasant buzz around New Road with supporters filing in for the first time this season. Cloud overhead and some grass on the wicket, so no decision to be made for Northants to bowl first.

That decision was made - officially - by Josh Cobb, with Alex Wakely absent for family reasons. Ben Sanderson and Rory Kleinveldt are also not here due to injury, with one eye on the 50-over competition that begins next week.

Northants have started well, with Mohammad Azharullah dismissing opener Brett D'Oliveira, to bring England batsman Moeen Ali to the crease early on.

A separate scheme, for a five million square metre terminal called the Northampton Gateway, has also been proposed.

Arguments for and against the schemes will be discussed tonight at a public meeting at Roade Village Hall, from 19:30.

James Digby, from Ashfield Land, the company behind Rail Central, said: "There is a huge amount of work going in to all the traffic studies we are doing with Highways England and the county council."

Representatives from the Northampton Gateway project declined to comment.

  9. Traffic infrastructure 'can't cope with proposed rail-freight terminals'published at 09:54 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Martin Heath
    BBC Radio Northampton

The traffic infrastructure simply isn't in place to deal with one, let alone two, new rail-freight terminals in the Roade area.

That is the view of David Bennett, from the village's parish council.

A public meeting is taking place this evening involving villagers and developers of the Northampton Gateway and Rail Central projects.

Mr Bennett said the projects amounted to a lot of "concrete and pollution".

He said the area was already "experiencing huge increases in housing development" and the "traffic infrastructure just isn't there".

  10. Campaigners hold meeting to oppose rail-freight terminal proposalspublished at 09:08 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Martin Heath
    BBC Radio Northampton

Campaigns are gathering pace against proposals for two giant rail-freight terminals planned to be built next to each other close to Blisworth.

A public meeting is taking place tonight in the village of Roade to give people a chance to express their views to the developers.

The Northampton Gateway Interchange Project would occupy about five million square feet (743,200 square metres) between the M1 and the Northampton loop line near Roade, Blisworth and Milton Malsor.

Rail Central is a similar scheme to the west between the loop line and the main line (a map of the area is pictured above). Developers say this scheme will create 8,000 jobs.

Campiagners say neither project is needed.

Today's likely to be the warmest day of the week, although it will be rather cloudy.

We’re into warmer air now, so it should feel pleasantly warm in any sunshine that appears.

The cloud will gradually thin and break during the morning, and that will really help to lift the temperatures, giving us highs of about 15C (59F).
