Women’s Tour cycling opens with Northamptonshire stage

Poland's Katarzyna Niewiadoma wins stage one of the 2017 Women's Tour through Northamptonshire, on 7 June 2017
Riders left Daventry on the Grand Depart at 11:00 BST
Niewiadoma (WM3 Pro Cycling) crossed the line not long after 15:00 BST in Kettering after opening up a strong lead
Marianne Vos (WM3 Pro Cycling) comes in second, Christine Majerus (Boels Dolmans) in third
"I'm so happy. It went so great today," says Niewiadoma following her win
Riders faced categorised climbs at Haselbech and Rockingham, with sprints at Desborough and Oundle
All of the world's top 15 teams took part in the event
Stage two through Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire takes place tomorrow, 8 June

The scene is set in Rockingham for the second Queen of the Mountains stage on the Northamptonshire route.
This small, picturesque village near Corby, right on the northerly edge of the county, is built along a hill.
Having just walked it, I can confirm it is rather steep! It's just over half a mile long (0.92km) and involves a climb of 210ft (64m).
Once the riders reach the top, passing Rockingham Castle, they'll be on the outskirts of Corby. They'll then pass through the town centre, on to Weldon and then back out into the countryside towards Oundle.

If you haven't been to see a top cycling event before, you might be a little surprised to see the movable convoy that the race brings with it.
In front of the 99 cyclists are vehicles carrying organisers, judges, media and police.
They're followed by team support vans, TV crews, race doctors... and just about everything else you could imagine.
