  7. Women's Tour: Road closurespublished at 09:22 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

    There will be some disruption on roads across Northamptonshire as the Women's Tour makes its way around the county.

    The most notable closures will be in Daventry - where the event begins at 11:00 - and in Kettering, where it ends.

    Daventry

    • High Street will be closed on Wednesday until no later than 17:00.
    • The closure will also affect Tavern Lane, Brook Street, Abbey Street and New Street.
    • From 10:00 to 12:00 the closure will be extended to include the St James Street roundabout.

    Kettering

    • Sheep Street will be closed from 04:00 to 18:00.
    • Northampton Road will be closed from the double roundabout into the town centre from 13:00 until 16:00.
    • Gipsy Lane will be closed at the Northampton Road end from 13:30 until about 15:30.

    This is the fourth Women's Tour and the fourth time it's been in Northamptonshire.

    Ever since the first race began in Oundle in 2014, it's established itself as a big day of international sport in the county, drawing many of the world's top women cyclists to the county.

    It's also a chance to show off the delights of Northamptonshire to the wider world - the rolling countryside as well as the towns such as Kettering and Daventry.

    And once again, Hannah Barnes and her sister Alice carry hopes of a local Northamptonshire winner.

    After the opening day in Northamptonshire, the Women's Tour also includes stages in Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire, before the final leg in London on 11 June.

    Stage one is is 91.7-mile (148km) route from Daventry - which will host the start for the first time - to Kettering, where the race will finish for its third consecutive year.

    If you fancy heading along to watch, the tour will leave the High Street in Daventry at 11:00 but the race will properly start on Bridge Road in Long Buckby.

    The riders will then take in towns and villages including West Haddon, Desborough, Rothwell, Cottingham, Rockingham, Corby, Oundle, Thrapston and Finedon, before ending on Sheep Street in Kettering from about 15:00.

    The Women's Tour 2017, begins this morning in Northamptonshire.

    Stage one of the five-day cycling race is a 91.7-mile (148km) route from Daventry High Street to Sheep Street in Kettering.

    All of the world's top 15 teams will take part in the event, which is a part of the UCI Women's WorldTour.

    Last year's winning team at the Women's Tour.

    Lizzie Armitstead (in yellow) won the event for the first time last year when the final stage was Northampton to Kettering.

    The 27-year-old Briton, riding for the Boels Dolmans team, finished in the pack to preserve her 11-second lead on South Africa's Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio.
