    BBC Local Live

Leicestershire's police officers have voted in favour of using these hoods that are designed to protect them from being spat at...

The mesh hoods are put on suspects to also protect officers from getting bitten.

A survey by the Police Federation claims 96% of officers backed the use of "spit guards" as part of their day-to-day kit.

More than half of police services across the UK already use them but Amnesty International have called them "glorified sacks" which can be a "cruel and dangerous form of restraint".

The chair of the Leicestershire Police Federation disagrees...

"It's a preventative tool to ensure the safety of our officers from dangerous diseases that actually could be spread onto them. It's not something that's going to be used as soon as we get into a confrontational situation the subject will already be under control."

The jury said: "This project represents a good adaptive reuse of a notable site of industrial heritage and is a key component of an important ensemble of buildings.

"Had it been demolished or left to further deteriorate, it would have been a scar on this World Heritage site.

"[Building 17] is a building with a social function that offers the perfect gateway to the World Heritage site of the Derwent Valley Mills”.
