BBC home affairs correspondent Daniel Sandford has said June's general election could be a useful side-effect for Theresa May by helping the Conservative Party attempt to put the 2015 expenses affair behind it.

The way the Conservatives "battle bus" spending was recorded two years ago is being investigated and Nottinghamshire Police is one of 14 forces to have sent files to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to decide whether charges should be brought.

They have until the end of May or early June to make a final decision.

He also thinks the election is down to the government's uncertainty over the outcome of Brexit.

The MP said he hopes voters consider more than just Brexit - he said the threat to the NHS is also an important issue that should be at the front of people's minds.
