    The grieving wife of a minibus driver killed in a horror smash on the M1 said she "is empty now".

    Cyriac Joseph was one of eight people from Nottingham killed when their vehicle was crushed between two lorries on the motorway in August last year.

    The two lorry drivers - one twice over the legal alcohol limit and the other on a hands-free call - will be sentenced for causing the deaths later this year.

    Ancy Joseph, who attended every day of the trial, told the BBC: "It's a big tragedy, a big loss. I'm empty now. [I have] nothing in my brain also. Everything is gone.

    "There is no life for me now. My life is finished."

    The couple's children, Benita and Benson, also spoke of their grief to the BBC.

    Derbyshire police have released CCTV images of an attempted break-in at a wine shop in Allestree.

    The incident took place at the Wine Rack in the Park Farm Centre during the early hours of 22 February and involved one of the people in the footage attempting to smash the window with a sledgehammer.

    Although they didn't gain entry into the shop, a considerable amount of a damage was caused in the process.

    PC Dalbir Janagal said: ”“Even though both people had their faces covered we hope that someone may recognise them from their clothing or perhaps even the sledge hammer used."

    A woman has been extradited to the UK from Latvia to face charges as part of a modern slavery investigation.

    The 33-year-old appeared in court earlier charged with four conspiracy offences linked to slavery, trafficking and exploitation.

    She was remanded into custody and will appear at Derby Crown Court on Friday.

    The woman was one of five people arrested last month during raids (pictured) in Derby and Latvia as part an investigation into alleged modern slavery.

    She is the eighth person to be charged in connection with the raid. Three more people are in custody in Latvia awaiting extradition proceedings.

    Police are investigating after a cat was shot at with an air rifle in a suburb of Chesterfield.

    The cat's owners, who live on Baden Powell Road, in Birdholme, told the officers their pet returned home with an injury at around lunchtime on Friday 2 March.

    It is possible the cat had been roaming in the Lord Roberts Road and Dundonald Road area, police added.

    Princess Anne has been visiting the National Space Centre in Leicester today. Her Royal Highness attended the centre's first ever Women in Space networking event, as she's a patron of the Women in Science and Engineering campaign.

    Earlier today The Princess Royal officially opened the Leicester Royal Infirmary's A&E unit. The 48 million pound Emergency Department first opened to patients last April.

    A historic legal ritual, thought not to have taken place in the UK since the 1700s, has been staged in Nottingham.

    It was to install Professor Peter Romary (pictured right) as a pro-tem judge, external in North Carolina.

    He was visiting Nottingham Trent University with students and asked if he could take his Oath of Office in the East Midlands so his UK-based parents could attend.

    The ceremony is required under the state constitution.

    Professor Janine Griffiths-Baker, Dean of Nottingham Law School, said: "This was a truly historic event and we are honoured to have been involved in such a momentous occasion."

    Leicestershire head coach Paul Nixon says signing Mohammad Nabi could be crucial to their T20 success this season.

    The Afghan all-rounder has become the Foxes second overseas player for the T20 Blast.

    Nabi, 33, has played 93 one-day internationals and 60 T20 matches for his national team.

    He has also played in T20 competitions around the world, including Australia's Big Bash and the Caribbean Premier League.

    However, 10:00 came and went without an announcement.

    The club later apologised and said they could not release the news, external due to "circumstances" out of their control.

    A blogger accused of writing and performing anti-Semitic songs has said there is "no proof" gas chambers were used to kill Jewish people in World War Two.

    Alison Chabloz, from Charlesworth in Glossop, repeatedly referred to the "so-called Holocaust" during her trial which resumed at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

    She told the court she did not understand the term "Holocaust denier", and preferred the term Holocaust revisionist, saying: "It's used to describe those who question the official narrative."

    The 53-year-old denies two counts of sending by a public communications network an offensive, indecent or menacing message or material in relation to two of the three songs.

    She also denies two alternative counts of "causing" offensive material to be sent by a public communications network, after her performance was posted on her blog.

    A fifth charge in relation to a third song entitled I Like The Story As It Is, which describes the Holocaust as a "damn fine tale", has also been denied by Chabloz.

    She said many Jewish people found her songs funny, and that no one was forced to listen to them.

    A decision is expected in May.

    A woman was pushed to the floor before being kicked and punched, external by two robbers who stole her handbag in Derby.

    Police said the 30-year-old was attacked near the junction of Cameron Road and Brunswick Street in Normanton at about 02:30 on 4 March.

    She described the men as being in their 20s, of eastern European appearance with short dark hair.
