PC Emerson Buckingham, wildlife crime officer for Derbyshire Constabulary, said there are a number of reasons that the badger sett may be blocked.

He said someone may do it to bait it at a later date, gas can be used to kill badgers, a hunt may block a sett to stop a fox from hiding during a hunt, or it may be to discourage roaming badgers who are looking to live in a currently disused sett.

PC Buckingham said: "At this time there is no indication as to why this sett has been blocked and officers will continue to monitor the site."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Derbyshire Constabulary.
