    Slash lane and Mountsorrel Lane in Sileby are both impassable and closed.

    In Medbourne the brook has overflowed onto Hallaton Road.

    A 53-year-old who killed a man by putting him in a headlock during an argument has been found guilty of murder.

    Ricky Simon, of Mere Road, Leicester, assaulted Constantine Papathanasiou, 51, at a property in St Peter's Road, Leicester, in May.

    Police said a post-mortem showed damage to the victim's neck and DNA linked Simon to Mr Papathanasiou.

    Simon, who denied murder during the trial at Leicester Crown Court, will be sentenced later.

    He was also found guilty of perverting the course of justice but cleared of witness intimidation.

    A graffiti artist, who wanted to make Derby feel "more Christmassy", has painted characters from an iconic festive film on a city wall.

    The street art shows Kevin McAllister, played by Macaulay Culkin, with the two robbers - known as "the Wet Bandits" - who break into his house.

    It has been painted on a wall belonging to a garage on Monk Street.

    Darrell Wynne, who also goes by the name Soap, said: "In Derby there's not much culture like in other cities.

    "I wanted to put smiles on faces and make the city feel more Christmassy."

    The mural, which features a quote from the film - "ya filthy animal" - has already been damaged once, he said, but Soap has returned to touch it up.

    He said: "If it lasts till Christmas I'll be happy."

    A school where a nine-year-old girl was injured after parts of a wall fell on her has been forced to close to allow for a structural investigation.

    It happened at St Mary Magdalene C of E Primary School in Sutton-in-Ashfield at about 12:20 GMT on Thursday.

    A spokesperson for the school: "There was an incident where some brickwork fell from an external wall at St Mary’s [on Thursday].

    "A child was taken to hospital and has since been released.

    "We apologise unreservedly for the distress caused by this and are taking every precaution following the incident.

    "Therefore we have decided to close the school today when a structural engineer will review the situation. We will act on the advice given going forward."

    Nottinghamshire Police said the girl suffered "minor injuries" and they were treating it as an "industrial accident".

    A police cordon remains in place three days after a body was discovered in Botcheston in Leicestershire.

    Officers were called to Markfield Lane on Tuesday after a body was found nearby.

    Leicestershire Police believe it had been there for some time, and the lane is still closed at the junction with Reservoir Road while inquiries take place.

    Tributes have been paid in the House of Commons to Dennis Skinner after the veteran politician lost his seat at the general election.

    Affectionately known by many as the Beast of Bolsover, the Labour stalwart had represented the Derbyshire constituency for almost half a century before being beaten by Conservative Mark Fletcher.

    Jacob Rees-Mogg, Leader of the Commons, told the House that even though his party had won, it was still a sad loss.

    A driver has been arrested after two lorries crashed in Nottingham last night - with one going into a garden wall.

    The crash happened at about 18:00 on Radcliffe Road, Lady Bay.

    Police one of the drivers was treated at the scene for minor injuries before he was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

    There were no other injuries reported.

    Radcliffe Road, between Mable Grove and Rutland Road, was closed for several hours after the crash.
