1. Nottingham Forest in 'victory' over former ownerpublished at 15:06 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2019

Nottingham Forest have scored a partial victory in a Court of Appeal battle with former owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi over the financial fallout from his sale of the football club.

Mr Al-Hasawi had triumphed at the High Court in London in May and the club were ordered to pay him £4.2m.

Judge Stuart Isaacs QC said there were no sums to be set off against the amount, which Mr Al-Hasawi paid in loans during negotiations over the club's sale to Greek shipping magnate Evangelos Marinakis in May 2017.

The judge said Mr Al-Hasawi bought Nottingham Forest in 2012 and "invested heavily" in the club's training ground, academy and match day facilities at the stadium.

But, in a ruling on Tuesday, Lord Justice Patten allowed the club's appeal in respect of about £604,000.

The decision will reduce the bill to about £3.6m.

Forest narrowly avoided relegation to League One on goal difference in Mr Al-Hasawi's last season as owner of the club.

The Leicestershire Widlife Hospital has made an urgent call for newspapers to line cages after treating "the most hedgehogs we've ever had".

Team leader Harriet Chiles said the charity has taken in 300 hedgehogs, 100 more than last year.

She said: "The aim is to release them but that won't be until spring, we have to wait for the weather to improve, and for the hedgehogs' weight to increase."

She added hedgehogs may not have been hibernating because of the mild seasons.

Founder Angela Downham said it will cost thousands to care for all the animals until next year.

"The average it costs to care for a hedgehog is between £5 to £9 a week, and when you think we're caring for 300 of them until spring, that's a lot," she said.

"We'll open 28,000 tins of food between now and spring."
