The bridge was shut last month when an inspection found steel in the structure had corroded.

He added that safety was the priority and, with some drivers ignoring the weight limit this morning, the decision was taken to close it again while extra signage and lane markings were installed.

"I had four interviews and they [Lego] put me through my paces over 18 months before they gave me the title," he said.

"Our average day involves making amazing and giant Lego creations for various toy stores, museums and galleries around the world."

He first came to the Danish firm's attention after he hacked into an online computer programme on robotics, in order to make it easier for children to use.

Mr McNaught said: "I got a letter from the Lego company saying 'cease and desist' and about a week later I got another letter saying 'this is really awesome what you're doing, let's do some stuff together'."

    Neil Heath
    BBC News Online

A mother whose eight-year-old son was killed on a stretch of smart motorway has welcomed the announcement that changes are to be made.

Dev Naran, from Leicester, died in May 2018 when his grandfather's car was struck by a lorry on the hard shoulder of the M6 which was being used by moving traffic.

He is one of 38 people to have died on smart motorways in the last five years.

Meera Naran, who said his death was "preventable", was among the campaigners who have demanded new safety measures, which were announced by Transport Secretary Grant Shapps on Thursday.

    Meera Naran

She said: "What I asked Mr Shapps was to put a host of different types of technologies in.

"I went into his office and asked for 19 different change of policies, he delivered on 18, plus more on different areas."

Mr Shapps said he had been "greatly concerned by a number of deaths on smart motorways, and moved by the accounts of families who've lost loved ones in these tragic incidents".

The "confusing" dynamic hard shoulders will be abolished and the distance between places to stop in an emergency will be reduced to three quarters of a mile where possible.
