    A childcare centre in Southwell has been shut after a worker tested positive for coronavirus.

    Bubble Wrap, in Halam Road - which cares for children from Lowe's Wong Infants and Junior School - said the staff member was examined after a relative discovered they had the illness following a trip to Italy.

    The centre said it has contacted the Department for Education and Public Health England for advice.

    There are currently seven confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

    An abandoned grey Staffordshire bull terrier has been found tied to a metal gate outside an RSPCA centre.

    The dog was found outside the Woodside Animal Centre, in Scudamore Road, Leicester, early last Wednesday morning.

    Staff at the centre said the dog - whom they have named Misty - is doing OK but feeling sorry for herself.

    RSPCA inspector Karl Marston has appealed to the public to help find out what happened to her.

    He said: "Poor Misty was skinny and her ribs were clearly visible. She also had some cuts on her nose and an uncomfortable skin condition.

    "She was microchipped, so we've made inquiries with the contact details registered but understand she was rehomed a number of years ago."

    He said anyone who recognises Misty should contact them on 0300 123 8018.

    A tribunal looking into a doctor's involvement in the "preventable" death of a four-year-old Chesterfield girl has begun.

    Gracie Foster died at Sheffield Children's Hospital in October 2015, hours after being discharged from Chesterfield Royal Hospital when a routine operation was cancelled.

    She was sent home by paediatrician Dr Baljinder Ubhi, known as Tim to his colleagues, but died from "Waterhouse-Friedrichsen syndrome as a complication of meningococcal septicaemia".

    At an inquest in September 2018, Dr Ubhi said he wished he would have "done more".

    The inquest found there were "gross failures" by healthcare professionals representing "neglect" which contributed to her death by natural causes. A narrative conclusion was recorded.

    A tribunal into Dr Ubhi's conduct at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service began on Monday. It will decide on whether Dr Ubhi continues to be fit to practice medicine or whether this is impaired.

    The tribunal is set to conclude on 20 March.

  6. Lane on A52 Clifton Bridge could reopen 'at end of week'published at 10:20 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2020

    An extra lane on Clifton Bridge heading out of Nottingham could reopen "by the end of this week", Highways England has said.

    Network operations manager Matt Pates told BBC Radio Nottingham: "The lane that normally carries inbound traffic across that bridge is going to open to carry traffic eastbound - or out of the city."

    He also said repair work to the bridge had not begun as it was "still in the design phase".

    All the work that has taken place on the bridge so far has been traffic management and surveying.

    One of the two bridges over the River Trent closed on 6 February after corroded steel was identified underneath the road.

    The closure of Clifton Bridge made Nottingham the most congested city in the world on 10 February, according to sat-nav creator TomTom.

    A councillor is trying to get a town centre drain unblocked after it was filled and covered with tarmac.

    Independent Stapleford town councillor Richard MacRae told the BBC the drain on Derby Road was reported broken several months ago when the cover began lifting up and damaging passing vehicles.

    He said workmen were deployed by Nottinghamshire County Council but instead of fixing the drain cover, it was filled with tarmac.

    Mr MacRae said he reported it to the authority again but this resulted in the whole drain being covered in tarmac.

    He wants the drain put back into use to help with "flooding issues" when it rains.

    Jo Horton, from the county council, said the gully was filled with tarmac because it was found to be "not working as intended".

    Instead of being cleared, it's going to be re-positioned at a date to be decided.

    Police have appealed for information after a man was stabbed in the back in Nottingham.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the victim was attacked at about 04:30 on Woodborough Road, in St Ann's, following a disturbance between a group of men.

    The man was taken to hospital for treatment and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-altering.

    A man has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in Nottingham.

    Nottinghamshire Police were called to Chesil Avenue in Radford to a report of a man that had been stabbed on the evening of 24 February.

    The force said at the time the man had been left with "life-altering" injuries.

    The 20-year-old, of no fixed address, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court earlier. He has also been charged with robbery and possession of a bladed article.

    He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

    Nottingham Forest majority owner Evangelos Marinakis has said on his official Instagram page he has been diagnosed with coronavirus.

    The Greek businessman, who also owns Olympiacos FC, insisted he was now following the advice of doctors regarding self-isolation.

    The post said, external: "The recent virus has 'visited' me and I felt obliged to let the public know.

    "I feel good as I take all the necessary measures and I discipline to the doctors instructions. I strongly advise all my fellow citizens to do the same. I wish all a quick recovery."

    It is understood an initial discussion has taken place between Nottingham Forest and the English Football League, and that those conversations will continue throughout the day to ascertain what the situation is.
