A Nottinghamshire GP has criticised the quality of the equipment provided to surgeries to protect staff from catching coronavirus.

Dr Hussain Gandhi works at the Wellspring Surgery in St Ann's, which serves more than 10,000 patients.

They have received supplies, including 200 face masks from NHS England.

But Dr Hussain is concerned they are not going to be effective in containing the virus.

"We had hoped for the N95 mask - which has a special membrane to filter out the virus - but we got something else instead and it is a question of how much protection those offer," he said.

    BBC News Online

A male peregrine falcon from Derby Cathedral has flown to Belper to find a mate, days after another male was shot and died.

The two-year-old bird was spotted by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust "trying to impress a female" and is believed to be mating.

Last Wednesday another of the birds, which had been nesting with a female at East Mill, was found with two shotgun pellets.

The Derbyshire town is famous for its nesting peregrines and a number of young have fledged there.

Tim Birch, director of Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, said it was "good news" a new male was on the scene.

However, he tweeted: "Bad news is how safe is he, given the previous male who died had two shotgun pellets in its body."

Derbyshire Police has been investigating the death, which was the second time in five years the birds have been targeted.
