The Matlock Bath Illuminations are set to return "on a limited basis" this year, Derbyshire Dales District Council has said.
First held back in 1897 to mark Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee, the event was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, having been called off in 2019 due to flooding.
The local authority said it hopes the event will be held in September and October this year, following a meeting with Matlock Bath Venetian Boat Builders' Association and Matlock Bath Parish Council.
If the event goes ahead there will be restrictions on the number of people allowed into Derwent Gardens, a spokesman said, with the council "looking closely at the capacity issue and other measures we need to put in place to make the event Covid secure".
Quote MessageIt's very likely the event will look and feel a lot different this year, but we are massively encouraged that the boat builders, whose amazing crafts are the centrepiece of every illuminations, have confirmed that they are in."

A public health boss has said a spike in coronavirus cases in the Hinckley and Bosworth area could be down to school and workplace transmission.
The area has seen cases rise sharply.
Latest data shows in the seven days up to March 27 cases, cases increased from 48 in the previous week to 117.
The infection rate, per 100,000 over the same period, has also risen from 42.4 to 103.4.
Mike Sandys, director of public health for Leicestershire County Council, said officials were waiting for more detailed data but were aware the increase was linked to school and workplace spread.
"We are perhaps getting a couple of schools where more than one case has been confirmed but that is likely to be down to mass testing and schools actually helping us find cases rather than cases spreading within them," he said.

Tributes to Captain Sir Tom Moore have been installed at Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital in Burton to recognise his fundraising for the NHS.
A ceramic poppy has been added to the memorial garden at Royal Derby Hospital, while a red leaf engraved with Capt Sir Tom's name has been added to the memorial tree at its sister hospital in Staffordshire.
Cathy Winfield, executive chief nurse for the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, said the tributes were to recognise how the 100-year-old "provided inspiration for so many people within the NHS and around the world at a time when we needed it most".
Capt Sir Tom's family said they are planning a commemoration event on what would have been his 101st birthdayat the end of the month.

A German shepherd-type dog that was rescued nearly drowning in the River Trent near Newark when her lead was tied to a rock has now found a new home.
Bella, 11, spent 15 months recuperating, and has been taken in by Maggie Mellish and Charlie Douglas, from South Derbyshire.
The RSPCA said she has a number of complex needs and it was important for her to have an owner with time to show her love and attention.
"We know she is in her older years but we just want to offer her a loving home she so deserves after all she has been through," said Maggie.
“We are both retired so she will have our company constantly which is what she really needs and it will be great for us too.”
Her husband Charlie added: “We were horrified by what happened to Bella and when we came to see her we realised what a great personality she has and she really is perfect for us.”
Ella Carpenter, manager at RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Centre, said the couple had experience with looking after this breed and were aware of the challenges around Bella's care as an elderly dog.
“This is the perfect happy ending to a story which started off so sad and there were real doubts if Bella could pull through after her terrible ordeal," she said.
Charlene Latham was handed a 12-month community order last month after she admitted her part in trying to drown Bella and failing to get help.
People were seen dancing and ignoring social distancing rules just days after restrictions were eased.

Scott began shouting and swearing at the man before headbutting him.
A struggle began between the two men before Scott pulled a knife out from his sock and stabbed the van driver in his leg and body.
Scott, of Oak Drive, Eastwood, was arrested when he got into a taxi after the attack.
He pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court to charges of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a knife in a public place.

The gates are open again at two Nottingham parks after they were closed on Wednesday to prevent large crowds gathering.
The city council shut both The Arboretum and Lenton Recreation Ground to avoid a repeat of the "appalling scenes" of drinking, brawling and partying from previous days.
Drinking alcohol in public places has been banned for several years in Nottingham and police said they have confiscated alcohol from some people in recent days.
A Nottingham student told the BBC he was disgusted and embarrassed by the scenes this week and said some students thought police were "spoiling their fun".
"It annoyed me that a small minority of students were causing such a disturbance to the residents of Nottingham. We are not permanent residents and it's only our home for a few months of the year," said Matt Lee.
"It's upsetting that students have had this effect on the people of Nottingham."
He said he and his friends had decided not to return to the city as their lectures continued online, but said many students had moved back into their student accommodation.
