Cathy Winfield, executive chief nurse, said: "Florence has family connections in Derbyshire, so what better way to honour her legacy and recognise UHDBs most outstanding nurses, midwives and nursing associates.

“Florence Nightingale’s legacy of nursing care, education and values has been exemplified through the generations and today’s nursing and midwifery leaders describe her work as critical to their practices and professions."

Councillor David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council, urged fans to "remain safe and considerate to others as they watch the match tonight".

“Please don’t turn up at city-centre bars and pubs unless you have a booking, and be respectful to others before, during and after the game, when there are likely to be lots of people out and about," he added.

"This especially means not gathering in large numbers with others outside your household groups – we’ve come such a long way as a city in the fight against Covid and we must keep going.”

  8. Vaccine passport scam prompts warningpublished at 10:23 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    BBC News

People in Derbyshire have been warned to steer clear of scam texts and emails inviting them to apply for Covid-19 vaccine passports.

Derbyshire Police said fraudsters were attempting to use the legitimate NHS vaccine pass scheme - which allows people to prove they are vaccinated before attending events or travelling abroad - to obtain bank information.

The force said the texts and emails link to a fake website designed to look like an official NHS site, which then asks users to pay an administration fee.

The force said: "It appears scammers are already trying to use this scheme as part of a bid to trick people out of cash.

"Fake emails on the Covid-19 vaccine passport have also been reported in other parts of the country.

"The NHS vaccine pass is free and you can find details on your eligibility and how to get it through the NHS website.

"Our advice would be to search for the pass yourself rather than clicking links sent to you through text or email."

  10. Council warning over 'dangerous' open water swimmingpublished at 08:31 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Alex Smith
    BBC News Online

A council has warned of the dangerous of open water swimming after hundreds descended on to a lake last week to cool down.

Nottingham City Council said crowds of people headed to Colwick Country Park amid hot temperatures.

With more warm weather forecast, the authority has urged people not to be tempted by the open water "as there are many hidden dangers".

This includes strong undercurrents and the water being deceptively cold - causing shock, severe cramp and hypothermia.

"Open water swimming can be extremely dangerous and a risk to life. If things do go wrong, there is often no-one around to help until it is too late," Rosemary Healy, lead councillor for parks, said.

"Our NHS and emergency services have enough on their plates as it is fighting the coronavirus pandemic and we need to protect them so they can save the lives of our loved ones."

Insp Rich Jackson said: "This order, which was in place during England's previous game against Ukraine, allows officers to deal with antisocial behaviour and crime not only once incidents have occurred, but when they are likely to.

"It is both a protective and preventative measure and anyone who refuses to comply with an order to leave will be committing an offence and could be arrested."

  18. Hospital a 'frightening place to work' after England matchpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 6 July 2021

    BBC News

Violence and racism after England's Euro 2020 quarter-final victory over Ukraine means hospital staff are "dreading" coming into work on Wednesday, a chief nurse has said.

Julie Hogg, who heads up nursing staff at King's Mill Hospital in Nottinghamshire, said about 900 people came into A&E on Saturday after England's 4-0 win secured their place in the semi-finals.

She said the unit was "an appalling and sometimes frightening place to work" because of "absolutely unacceptable" behaviour, adding staff "won't hesitate to call the police if people behave badly".

"Most patients were polite and were just seeking help and treatment, but a significant minority of people abused our colleagues; we experienced people who were violent, rude, said inappropriate sexual comments and, in some cases, were racist," she said.

England face Denmark on Wednesday at Wembley for a place in the final on 11 July, and the hospital has committed extra security staff for the emergency department shift tomorrow evening.

"This is a real shame as it's money we could be spending on patient care, but NHS staff must be safe from harm," she said.

“We want everyone to go out and have fun on Wednesday, but we ask you to do so safely."

    BBC News Online

Derby aims to join the race to be crowned the next City of Culture.

The city council said it was putting a bid to be considered for the title in 2025, ahead of the deadline for applications in a couple of weeks.

If successful, it could be a huge boost for the city.

    Derby

Tony Butler, executive director of Derby Museums, said: “For over 300 years Derby has been a centre for creativity, experimentation and making.

"Here, on the banks of the Derwent, the Industrial Revolution first took hold, fuelled by the ideas of scientific discovery and enlightenment. That legacy resonates today as a city that is global in outlook committed to economic innovation."

Adam Buss, CEO of the Quad arts centre, added: "Our bid for City of Culture will draw together the heritage of the city alongside the voices of the young people of today to help us work together for a brighter future.

"Derby is a diverse, global city and our City of Culture bid will reflect both the unique qualities of the city and the unifying human qualities that bind us together."
