A memorial garden where people can go to remember babies they have lost has been vandalised.

Trees have been uprooted, sculptures damaged and a plaque has been removed in the Serenity Garden in Highfields Park, Nottingham.

Jo Sharp, from the charity, said cars, vans and caravans had been driven through the garden after a padlock was cut.

She said: "They have driven straight over a tree that was dedicated to twins."

Yesterday, she said she she witnessed a boy "trying to destroy" a sculpture and within an hour she saw 10 vehicles driving through the garden.

"It is frustrating but devastating because of the sentimentality of the garden," she said.

"It has taken a huge amount of time and fundraising for someone to destroy in less than one week."

However, she added since the vandalism, "the outcry and outpouring of support has been phenomenal" and the charity is determined to restore it to its prior beauty.

Nottinghamshire Police said they were investigating it as criminal damage and appealed for information.

He added there will be more patrols in the area over the next few days.

Pete Grafton, the owner of Toll Bar Fish & Chips in the village, said two French train engines have been delivered.

He said: "It is all set up on the track. They say it will be filmed in the next two weeks.

"We had two engines come on Saturday. It's the talk of the town again now."

Tom Cruise was seen posing for photos earlier this year as filming took place elsewhere in the country.

Tony Holmes, who was walking in the Peak District on Sunday, went to have a look on his way home and saw one engine sat on the track as well as "wagons at the side of the field".

He said: "I heard it had been delivered so we took a detour. It is not every day a Hollywood movie is filmed in a field in the Peak District."
