    Sixty seven years ago today, the BBC broadcast its first ever TV weather forecast.

    Oh dear it appears not much changes... rain is forecast today and there were showers back in 1949 as well.

    Outbreaks of rain, possibly heavy in places, will move east across all parts. Brighter conditions with isolated heavy, possibly thundery, showers will then develop later. Highs of 21C (70F).

    The Midlands has more than a hundred fewer pubs than it did six months ago, according to the Campaign for Real Ale, external (CAMRA).

    While 129 have opened across the region, 241 have closed and CAMRA say it's rural and suburban pubs that are the worst hit. 

    It adds that those not serving food are also struggling but the expansion of places serving food and the increase in demand for craft beer is seen as a positive.

    Emergency services in the Midlands are warning of the dangers of swimming in open water, especially during the school holidays.

    In the past week, eight people across the UK have died after swimming in rivers, quarries and lakes, including 46-year-old Sylwester Ficon in Burton upon Trent.

  19. Police pursuit crash: Car 'involved in crime' say officerspublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 25 July 2016

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission says it was the driver of a Vauxhall Corsa who died after being in collision with another car near Newcastle-under-Lyme last night.

    It's investigating because the Corsa was being followed on the A53 by a West Mercia Police vehicle at the time.

    Meanwhile a series of tweets, external from Market Drayton's Safer Neighbourhood Team said the P-registration burgundy Corsa had earlier been involved in crime in Cheshire and the villages of Woore and Norton-in-Hales in Shropshire.
