  1. WATCH: Tornado-like shapes in Midlands skiespublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

    Tornado-like shapes called funnel clouds have been forming in skies above the West Midlands.

    These images were captured yesterday by Matthew Lee Hancox in Shrewsbury, Helen Vann in north Rugby and Robert Brooker, east of Coventry. And earlier today, Jason Mason Burns, near Droitwich, spotted the same meteorological phenomenon.

    Unemployment in the West Midlands rose in the past three months, external, according to official figures.

    The total increased to 159,000 in the February-to-April period, up by 7,000 from the previous quarter, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

    The Met Office is warning that rising temperatures could trigger some heavy slow-moving downpours across Coventry and Warwickshire., external

    It says some area may miss them, but where they do occur, there could be localised flooding and disruption to travel - with lightning an additional hazard.

    The yellow warning is in place from 10:00 to 22:00.

    A public meetings is being held in Little Wenlock tonight to discuss making a local road safer for cyclists, walkers, and horse riders.

    The meeting will consider turning Spout Lane into what's known as a "quiet lane", with signs asking motorists to be more considerate, is being held in the Village Hall at 18:30.

  11. Police no longer treating Trench incident as possible rapepublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    The police say they're no longer treating an incident in Trench last Wednesday night as a possible rape.

    But they say they're continuing investigations to see if "an offence of another nature" took place.

    The incident is believed to have happened on a pathway across a small field in between Trench Road and Lennock Road.

    These four cups were won by Charles Ainsworth at the Much Wenlock Olympic Games in the late 1900s.

    He won them in the "tilting" competition, which involved riding a horse and collecting rings around the size of a 50p while at full gallop.

    They’ve recently been acquired by Much Wenlock Museum from his descendants who live in Zimbabwe and form part of a new exhibition at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery.

    Shropshire's hospitals have been getting good marks in a patients' survey.

    The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt hospital at Gobowen, external recorded the best overall satisfaction score in the country in the Care Quality Commission study.

    The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Telford's Princess Royal Hospital, external improved their scores in two-thirds of the questions asked and only recorded worse marks in a handful - overall they were judged to be on a par with other hospitals in the country.

    Shropshire Council is one of four local authorities to launch a legal challenge against the government, claiming they haven't been given enough money to help vulnerable people on low incomes.

    Shropshire, Liverpool, Richmond and Nottinghamshire are arguing they are legally obliged to comply with new government rules, but are getting no extra money and that as a result they are facing increasing workloads and financial strain.

    West Mercia Police have been asked to investigate allegations a Conservative party agent failed to declare her candidates' expenses correctly during the 2015 general election.

    Alison Hernandez, external, who has since been elected the Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall, was working for Conservative MP Kevin Foster at the time.

    The force, which is one of several forces investigating linked claims of improper electoral spending in the Devon and Cornwall area, is carrying out the investigation under the direction of the Independent Police Complaints Commission, external
