    They form part of a new exhibition which opens next Monday and are unusually relaxed for the time

    We've mentioned Shropshire's Joe Hart and Dave Edwards a couple of times now, as they start their Euro 2016 campaigns for England and Wales respectively.

    But there are other players at the tournament with a connection to our county.

    Iceland's midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson (above) played five games for Shrewsbury Town in 2008, while on loan from Reading and Northern Ireland's Conor Mclaughlin (below) had a four-game loan spell with Shrewsbury in 2012.

  4. Quarry opponent predicts '20 years of disruption'published at 14:36 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    "Twenty years of disruption" is being predicted by Telford councillor, Andrew Eade, if planning permission is given for a new sand and gravel quarry off Pave Lane near Newport.

    He says some of the roads leading to the site (see photo below) are unsuitable and claims the county already produces enough aggregates.

    The company hoping to operate the site, Mick George, says it will be run to the highest standards, will create jobs and will have trees planted around it.

  5. Football: AFC Telford United sign Welsh strikerpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    AFC Telford United have signed former Wrexham striker Danny Reynolds.

    The 19-year-old was released by the Welsh club last month, but the Wrexham manager, Gary Mills, recommended the young striker to Telford's assistant manager Larry Chambers.

    He completed his move this morning, following international clearance from the Welsh FA.

    He needs this because he is moving from a Welsh club to an English club and they operate under different football associations.

    School nurses in Shropshire are stepping up their campaign to help children lose weight. 

    They're targeting the most obese, with a plan to improve their diet and increase their physical activity.

    Nurse Jane Cook, who's leading the initiative, says their data shows that of children starting school in Shropshire, 1 in 5 are overweight or obese. At Year 6 that goes up to 1 in 3.

  8. Private organisations to get chance to run Shrewsbury poolpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    Private companies and other organisations might get the a chance to run Shrewsbury's swimming pool in The Quarry.

    Shropshire Council is carrying out a review to see if the baths should move somewhere else and it is due to produce a recommendation on 16 July.

    If the recommendation is that the council can't continue to run the pool at its current home, then interested parties will be given 12 months to put forward their own proposals to keep it there, before a decision is made to move it.

  9. Olympics exhibition opens in Shropshirepublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    An exhibition about the Wenlock Olympian Society's contribution to the modern Olympic Games opens at Shrewsbury's museum today. 

    A museum spokesman says four silver cups, which have returned from Zimbabwe 140 years after they were won at the Wenlock Olympian Games, are of particular interest.

    There was no game for Shropshire this weekend and a number of other matches fell victim to the wet weather, including Shrewsbury v Walsall in the Birmingham League Premier Division.

    Bridgnorth and Wellington both drew their games in the First Division and in the Second, Shifnal beat Halesowen by three wickets. Oswestry lost their game.

    In the Third Division, Worfield beat Brewood by three wickets, Newport drew with Aston Manor and Whitchurch lost their match.

    Firefighters have made safe a wind turbine in Cressage.

    They were called out at 18:45 last night, external after the turbine became unstable, because of the recent stormy weather.

  16. Opposition to plans for quarrypublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    Plans for an open-cast quarry near Newport are being challenged by a number of local residents. 

    Cambridgeshire-based firm, Mick George, has an application in with Telford and Wrekin Council to quarry the 51 hectare site.

    Campaigners against the development say the quarry, on Pave Lane, isn't needed. 

    Residents and local councillors argue the proposed access onto the site off the A41 would be dangerous and throw up environmental issues. 

    However, the developers say the quarry will create jobs and be operated to the highest standards. 

  17. Shrewsbury and Telford have some of the lowest locum ratespublished at 10:30 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    Both of the county's Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) have some of the lowest use of locum doctors in the West Midlands, according to data analysis by the BBC.

    The Health and Social Care Information Centre has, for the first time, recorded the number of locum GPs working across England.

    All CCGs supplied a snapshot of the data on the 30 September last year. 

    Shropshire CCG recorded that 3.7% of their staff were locums on that day. 

    Telford & Wrekin CCG recorded no use of locum staff at all that day.
