    If you're heading to the V Festival at Weston Park, we've already got traffic issues on routes near the site:

    - The M6 exit slip road at junction 12 for Gailey is closed northbound due to the event.

    - There's slow traffic on the A5 westbound between Gailey Island, Gailey and the A41 in Weston-under-Lizard.

    - It's also slow going on the A41 northbound in Tong at the Offoxey Road junction because of people heading to V Festival.

  2. Dalian Atkinson: Family 'determined to get justice'published at 08:41 British Summer Time 19 August 2016

    The family of former Aston Villa striker Dalian Atkinson who died after being Tasered by police has welcomed news that two officers are under criminal investigation.

    The development was confirmed yesterday evening by the Independent Police Complaints Commission which has been examining the circumstances surrounding Mr Atkinson's death. He was pronounced dead at hospital on Monday morning following the incident in a street near Telford.

    In a statement released through the charity INQUEST, his family , externalsaid it was still in shock and "determined to get justice".

    Thousands of visitors are expected at Weston Park this weekend for the 21st V Festival.

    Held in the grounds of the stately home it's the biggest festival in the Midlands and will feature Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Travis. 

    People are being advised to leave plenty of time for their journey as traffic is expected to be extremely busy around junction three of the M54 and the surrounding area.

    Today, the waiting was finally over for thousands of A-level students and their families across the West Midlands, who learned their results.

    Overall the pass rate for the region was slightly down on last year, although 97.9% of students still passed with an A* to E grade. 

    We'll be looking at the help now being given to students through clearing at universities and how it's been an emotional day for so many, on Midlands Today from 18:30 on BBC One.

  7. V Festival: Medics prepare for 'one of biggest first aid operation of the year'published at 16:15 British Summer Time 18 August 2016

    Ambulances, 4x4 vehicles and 200 staff and volunteers, external are going to be sent to this year's V Festival in Staffordshire, the ambulance service says. 

    West Midlands Ambulance Service says early indications are for a mixed weekend of weather so it's preparing for all conditions.

    It says at last year's event, medics treated just over 1,000 patients with 36 being taken to hospital. 

    The charity St John Ambulance says it will also have staff on-site and describe it as "one of the biggest first aid operations of the year".

    On Midlands Today this lunchtime, the university admissions service UCAS says a record number of students have been offered places on courses.

    It comes as thousands of teenagers across the West Midlands receive their A-level results.

    A rights activist is calling for a "rigorous and transparent" investigation into the death of ex-Aston Villa footballer Dalian Atkinson after he was shot with a police Taser.

    The 48-year-old died after West Mercia Police shot him with a stun gun in the street where he grew up in Telford, Shropshire, in the early hours of Monday. 

    A petition calling on the prime minister to urgently review police use of Tasers, external has gathered more than 56,000 signatures.

    Desmond Jaddoo, an activist from Birmingham who campaigns to raise awareness about the deaths of black men after police contact, says officers have questions to answer over Mr Atkinson's death.

    The death of the ex-striker is being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission, external which said it would carry out "a full and thorough" inquiry.

    The heritage line says due to the reallocation of some pre-booked seats on selected trains, a very limited number of tickets have become available to travel for the visit of the locomotive from 21 - 26 September.

    The West Midlands was one of only two regions in the UK to see unemployment rise between April and June, official figures indicate.

    Across the UK the total fell by 52,000 to 1.64 million - in the West Midlands it increased by 18,000 to 173,000, external compared with January to March. 

    The only other region to see unemployment rise was London where it rose by 7,000 people.

    Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon says his side gave away goals through individual errors in their 3-0 defeat last night.

    The side have failed to score in their three league games this season, but Mellon said it was too early in the season to worry about that and said the players were creating chances.

    The A5 is closed westbounds from the M54 J7 near Wellington as far as the Preston Island.

     It's due to a crash on the approach to the Preston Island on outskirts of Shrewsbury, not helped by the earlier lorry fire and fuel spill nearer Wellington.
