    The New Saints return to top spot in the Welsh Premier after a 5-0 win over Llandudno.

    The goals came from Sergeant, Quigley, Brobbel and Adrian Cieslewicz, who suffered a nasty head injury and had to be carted off to hospital.

    An inquest into the death of Dalian Atkinson is set to open in Shrewsbury on Wednesday.

    The former Aston Villa striker died shortly after being Tasered at his father's house in Telford last week.

  6. Man appears in court on murder chargepublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 22 August 2016

    A man's appeared in court charged with the murder of a 16-year-old in the Meole Brace area of Shrewsbury.

    Declan Graves, who is 19 and from Dymchurch Road in Liverpool, will be held in custody until his trial at Stafford Crown Court in February.

    Michael Warham, from Liverpool, was found by a member of the public with a stab wound in Wayford Close on 1 August and died later in hospital.

  9. Slavery reports rise fivefold, Salvation Army sayspublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 22 August 2016

    Just over 13% of "modern slavery” victims helped by the Salvation Army in 2015/16 were referred from the West Midlands, according to new data.

    The charity says it supported 1,805 people in England and Wales during the period – nearly a five-fold increase in the number since 2012.

    Anne Read, director of anti-trafficking and modern slavery at the Salvation Army, said the nature of the crime meant it was "always difficult to know the full extent of the problem" and the increase in referrals could be because there were more victims but also "improvements in training and awareness-raising".

  11. 'Tent explosion' at V Festivalpublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 22 August 2016

    Nobody has been injured in a "tent explosion" at V Festival, an ambulance worker says.

    Liz Parkes is one of West Midlands Ambulance Services medics at the 2016 event which is winding down today.

    She tweeted that the fire service onsite had "dealt with" the explosion.

    AFC Telford United left Curzon Ashton with a point after coming from behind to draw 1-1. 

    The Bucks were poor in the first half and Curzon took advantage as Niall Cummins got in behind the Telford defence to easily side-foot the opener.

    Rob Smith introduced Micah Evans and Danny Reynolds after the break and it was the two substitutes who combined brilliantly to equalise - Evans pulling the ball back after a great run for Reynolds to make no mistake.

    More than 1,200 people needed medical treatment at the V Festival in Staffordshire at the weekend, external, according to the ambulance service.

    The wet weather led to many people getting hurt due to slips, trips and falls, West Midlands Ambulance Service says. A number were also treated for drinking too much alcohol. 

    The service says the total treated was 1,218, an increase on 2015 - 40 were taken to hospital for more treatment.

    Shrewsbury now lie second in the Birmingham League Premier Division after beating Barnt Green by 91 runs. 

    In the lower divisions, there were wins for Wellington and Shifnal.

    In the Shropshire Premier League, Frankton beat St Georges, Sentinel drew with Albrighton, Broseley beat Shelton and Madeley claimed a win against Forton.

    Skipper Adam El-Abd headed a late winner as Shrewsbury beat Chesterfield 2-1 to pick up their first League One win of the season.

    Chesterfield struck first when Jay O'Shea drove confidently home from 15 yards in the 14th minute.  

    Shrewsbury responded well and equalised with their first league goal of the season thanks to a header from left-back Junior Brown.  

    Shrewsbury grabbed the winner six minutes from time when Adam El-Abd powerfully headed in Jim O'Brien's corner from the right.

    More than 500,000 people in our region have taken part in clinical trials in the last decade - giving them access to new drugs and treatments not available on the NHS.

    A man is appearing at Stafford Crown Court charged with the murder of a 16-year-old.
