  5. 'Positive' step in bid to save Copthorne Barracks sports pitchpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 25 August 2016

    Campaigners fighting to save the playing fields by Shrewsbury's Copthorne Barracks say they've had a positive response from people who live in the area.

    Part of the barracks site is expected to make may for housing.

    The Shropshire Playing Fields Association have appealed for residents to come forward, as it's more likely the fields will be saved from demolition if there is proof that they are used by the community.

    They now say a cricket team called the Copthorne Stragglers have used the sports pitch for their home matches for several seasons, which means at least another seven teams from the same league will have played on the pitch each season.  

  6. Severe delays on the Shropshire border near Welshpoolpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 25 August 2016

    An accident involving two cars means traffic is queuing on the A483 at Buttington, just north of Welshpool.

    It's affecting a long stretch of road from the junction with the A458 road to Shrewsbury, right up as far as Arddleen.

  7. Police advise caution over 'lawsuit' scam callspublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 25 August 2016

    West Mercia Police say there is a scam going around Shropshire, whereby callers are told they face a lawsuit, external.

    It involves an automated message, which asks you to press a key on your phone to speak to a caseworker.

    You then get a call demanding payment over the phone.

    Officers say Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs would never ring people to ask for personal or bank details over the phone - their advice is to hang up immediately.

    Many of you have been in touch with your memories of visiting Wales over the last couple of weeks.

    It's part of our Breakfast show's search for the most popular place along the Welsh coast, which can be declared "Shropshire-on-sea".

    Barmouth has come out on top, and the British Ironworks Centre, external has got on board to make a trophy or a sculpture, which will be presented to the Mayor of Barmouth.  

    Suggestions you've offered include a miniature Wrekin or a model of the Iron Bridge. Find out which has been chosen on tomorrow's programme.

  11. Students celebrate GCSE successpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 25 August 2016

    Updates have been coming in from around the county as students receive their GCSE results.

    At least 43% of pupils at the Marches School, external in Oswestry gained one or more A or A* grades this year.

    Meanwhile, Shrewsbury College says it's seen an increase in the number of GCSE passes for the third year running.

  12. Dog charity launching fundraiser in Shropshirepublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 25 August 2016

    A charity which rehomes abandoned dogs has chosen one of the busiest weekends on Shropshire's calendar to launch its latest fundraiser. 

    Finding Furever Homes, external is competing against the Shrewsbury Folk Festival, Ellesmere Rocks and the Onslow Park Steam Rally.

    They're running a dog show on Sunday called K9 Capers in Shrewsbury's Quarry Park and need help from dog lovers.

  14. Ironbridge Museum Trust fundraising to buy chinapublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 25 August 2016

    Shropshire’s Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust launched a campaign in early August appealing for donations to help them buy five significant pieces of Coalport and Caughley china.

    They are hoping to raise nearly £12,000, and have already raised two thirds of the funds needed, including sufficient money to purchase two Coalport China plaques, exquisitely painted by John Randall, one of Coalport China’s most famous artists.

  18. Black-faced dancers urged to use 'less offensive' alternativespublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 25 August 2016

    The equality group which complained about black-faced Morris dancers at Shrewsbury Folk Festival say there are plenty of alternatives, which would avoid the chance of causing offence. 

    Many of you have been in touch to have your say, external following the festival's decision to ban them from next year's event.
