    A person in the car had to be cut free from the wreckage. 

    The accident happened near the Riverside Inn in Cressage at 09:30 this morning.

    A man from Albrighton, who was in Moscow during the in the 1991 Soviet coup says it was a frightening event to witness. 

    Tanks and troops roamed the streets as members of the government tried to take control of the country from president Mikhail Gorbachev.

    Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon said he was "really, really proud" of his players after their narrow 1-0 loss to Premier League club Sunderland.

    Fire crews and water companies in the Midlands have both been warning about the dangers of swimming in rivers this morning.

    The TriSmart club based in Ellesmere says the temptation to cool down is understandably greater because of the warm weather, but wants people to be aware of the difference between swimming pools and open water.

    An equality group says banning black-faced Morris dancers from Shrewsbury's Folk Festival is the right decision, despite the practice's long history. 

    Fairness, Respect, Equality Shropshire, or Fresh, external contacted the festival's organisers after receiving a complaint from a member of the public.

    They also warned the organisers that they would support anyone who chose to take legal action if the dancers offended them.   

    Jonathan Hyams from the group says the key issue is their potential to upset people, who "would not necessarily understand their tradition".

    Shrewsbury narrowly lost out to Premier League opposition Sunderland in the EPL Cup second round last night.

    Ivan Toney had Shrewsbury's best effort, but was denied by Jordan Pickford.

    In the end a late goal for Adnan Januzaj, his first for the club, was enough to seal the points for Sunderland after a disjointed display.

  18. GKN Sankey fire 'caused by robot'published at 09:36 British Summer Time 25 August 2016

    A robot has been blamed for yesterday's fire at GKN Sankey's factory.

    The plant produces parts for the automotive industry and the robot in question is believed to have been making parts for a Toyota vehicle.

    Nobody was hurt, but it took several hours to clear the smoke from the plant in Hadley.

  19. Thousands set to receive GCSE resultspublished at 09:17 British Summer Time 25 August 2016

    Thousands of teenagers in Shropshire will be among the half a million across the country picking up their GCSE results today.

    Pass-rates are likely to have been affected by a high number of pupils who've had to re-sit English and Maths having failed to get a grade-C last year.  

    Government plans in England to encourage more pupils to get GCSEs in maths and English required re-sits for tens of thousands who failed last year.
