    More on that attempted abduction - Police say a man tried to persuade an 11-year-old boy to get into his car at Long Croft in Weston Rhyn on Wednesday afternoon. 

    The boy was walking home after getting off a school bus, when a man in a black car called out and falsely claimed that he'd been asked to pick him up by the boy's mother.

    The boy shouted "no" to the man and ran home and the car drove off in the direction of Trehowell Lane, officers say.

    The AFC Telford United manager, Rob Smith, says his side is becoming "a draw specialist" and is asking his players to get more bodies in the box.

    They've drawn six out of their 13 league matches so far and sit 19th in the table, but Smith says they are "not a million miles away from winning games".

    Telford play FC United of Manchester at home tomorrow and are asking fans to turn up in their numbers, to help the club through its financial difficulties.

  5. Shrewsbury homes to be connected to new water pipespublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 14 October 2016

    People living in parts of Shrewsbury will be connected up to new water pipes next week.

    Severn Trent has been replacing two miles (3km) of old pipes in the Roman Road area, at a cost of £2m, causing some disruption on surrounding roads.

    The next stage of the work will take place on Roman Road itself, near the junction of Ridgebourne Road, on Monday and will mean temporary traffic lights for a week, before the workmen move on to Longden Island during the half term.

    Some maternity services are being suspended at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital from this weekend, because of maintenance work. 

    For the next fortnight, starting on Sunday women will have to go to the Princess Royal in Telford to give birth.

    Outpatient appointments and assessments in Shrewsbury will continue, while the work on the plant room is carried out, but there will be no hot water or heating.

    The police are investigating an attempted abduction of a child walking home from school in the Weston Rhyn area.

    Parents with children at nearby schools are being advised not to let them walk to or from home by themselves.

    Shrewsbury Town right back Joe Riley says the longer the club continues without a permanent manager, the more unsettling it is for the players. 

    He admits speculation is the talk of the dressing room and that his teammates are uncertain about their futures, but insists they can't dwell on it.

    Shrewsbury have a local derby at Walsall tomorrow and Riley says he's been through a similar situation at a previous club.

    Motorway police are warning "car cloning" appears to be on the rise in the West Midlands.

    It involves criminals copying and making fake number plates, and then fixing them to other vehicles to commit crimes. 

    The BBC has discovered that getting hold of a set of fakes isn't that difficult - we'll have more from 13:30 on BBC One.

  11. Teen clown given police cautionpublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 14 October 2016

    A 17-year-old girl has been given a caution after being stopped in Madeley last night dressed as a clown.

    Police say they will be carrying out extra patrols in the area to reassure people.

    Forces across England have been called to dozens of incidents in which pranksters dress as clowns to deliberately scare people - a craze said to have started in the USA.

    The teenager, who jumped out in front of a car in her costume, was warned about "engaging in disorderly behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress".

    A man has been rescued from a first-floor window of a burning house in Shrewsbury.

    The fire service say they were called out at 02:11 to a report of a kitchen fire in Frankwell, caused by "unattended cooking".

    The fire was out within 20 minutes and the man was unhurt.

  18. Council says new Telford footbridge will be 'unique and iconic'published at 11:21 British Summer Time 14 October 2016

    Telford's new, £7m footbridge, linking the town centre to the railway station will be "unique and iconic", Telford and Wrekin Council says.

    The work will be part of a wider £12m project, due to start next month and largely funded by the Department for Transport, which will also involve turning two town centre roads into dual carriageways.

    The council says the new footbridge will reflect local landmarks like the iron bridge in decorative glass panels and will be much cheaper to maintain than the current bridge.

    When work starts next year, a temporary bridge will be built alongside, for people to use until the new one is finished.

  19. Police speed van has tyre slashedpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 14 October 2016

    Police say one of their vans had its tyre slashed earlier this week, while it was carrying out speed checks on a street in Newport.

    They say it happened sometime between 18:00 and 19:00 on Monday, as it was parked on Deer Park Drive and the vehicle had to be taken off the road until the next day, reducing their ability to respond to emergencies.

    The police say it could have been done by someone who was unhappy with the speed enforcement work being carried out.
