    The leader of Telford & Wrekin Council says he is "deeply concerned" by Owen Paterson's attack on his authority.

    The Conservative North Shropshire MP accused Telford councillors of "vanity" and said they were misleading the public over hospital reorganisation proposals - he also suggested the authority should be abolished.

    Councillor Shaun Davies, the Labour leader of the authority, said there was "no appetite among Telford & Wrekin residents to be governed from Shrewsbury" adding there were "stark differences" between the two areas, making a merger impossible.

    The number of alleged rapes recorded by West Mercia Police has more than doubled in the last two years, external.

    In England and Wales, forces logged nearly 36,000 alleged rape offences in the year to the end of March 2016. 

    That's a 124% increase compared to 2012.

    A war veteran from Wellington has been awarded the Legion d'Honneur for his role in helping to liberate France during World War Two.

    Harry Timmins was part of a British infantry brigade that liberated the French town Caen, before taking part in Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands.

    The former manager of St Mirren, Alex Rae, says he'd be interested in taking the job at Shrewsbury Town. 

    He's previously coached in England at MK Dons, Notts County and Blackpool and played for Rangers, Sunderland and Wolves, where he was a popular midfielder.

    The North Shropshire Conservative MP Owen Paterson has launched an attack, external on Labour-run Telford & Wrekin Council, saying the authority is "not fit for purpose" and accusing it of "deliberate misrepresentation" of the Shropshire hospital proposals.

    Telford & Wrekin Council has threatened the NHS with a legal challenge, following a report which recommended the downgrading of Telford's A&E department and moving women and children's services to Shrewsbury.

    Mr Paterson said the delay caused by the legal challenge was a "total waste of public money" which could jeopardise the process and maybe force the permanent closure of one of the county's A&Es.

    He accused Telford politicians of "vanity" and said that could put patients at risk.

    The crisis at AFC Telford United may take a little longer to resolve. 

     A meeting of the supporters trust on Monday has been delayed because it hadn't been set up with the required two weeks' notice.

    The club needs to find £50,000 between now and Christmas to pay the bills and needs to change the way it's run, if it's to attract outside investors.

  13. Canal project gets £2.5m lottery grantpublished at 08:58 British Summer Time 13 October 2016

    The Mongomery Canal is getting £2.5m from the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore part of the waterway in Shropshire.

    Volunteers from the Shropshire Union Canal Society, external have been working since 1969 to bring it back into use, along with a number of historic buildings and nature reserves.

    This grant is one of a number announced by the lottery fund this morning, totalling more than £48m.
