    The MP for Shrewsbury Daniel Kawczynski will be raising the issue of Shropshire's hospital review at Prime Minister's Questions today.

    He is due to tell Theresa May that a decision can't be delayed and that he believes the NHS should be free to make the decision themselves, without political interference.

    A recent report recommended the downgrading of the A&E department at Telford and moving the women and children's unit to Shrewsbury.

  5. Threat to close nursing home beds droppedpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 12 October 2016

    Shropshire's Clinical Commissioning Group might be short of cash, but it has made a commitment this morning to continue funding beds at Much Wenlock's Lady Forester Nursing Home.

    Around 1,500 people signed a petition, calling for the funding to continue.

    The announcement was made at a CCG board meeting this morning and was welcomed by campaigners.

    The Morecambe manager Jim Bentley has become the latest potential candidate to distance himself from the vacant manager's job at Shrewsbury Town.

    The club has received around 100 applications for the job but former Telford player Bentley follows Steve Cotterill, Tony Mowbray and Sean O'Driscoll in publicly denying an interest.

    The Japanese technology firm Fujitsu says a plan to reduce its UK workforce by 1,800 isn't linked to Britain's decision to leave the EU. 

    The company employs around 14,000 people around the UK, including more than 300 in Telford.

  9. Lib Dems want review of Shrewsbury pool decisionpublished at 10:51 British Summer Time 12 October 2016

    Liberal Democrats on Shropshire Council want decisions taken over Shrewsbury's Quarry swimming pool be looked at again, by a scrutiny committee, because they think the original decision was flawed.

    Last month, Conservative cabinet members agreed to move the pool to the sports village in Sundorne, but also gave other organisations a year to come up with alternatives.

    The Lib Dems say the council should have waited to hear those alternatives before reaching its decision.

  10. Football: AFC Telford United need thousands in coming monthspublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 12 October 2016

    AFC Telford United want a big crowd for Saturday's game as they look to find £25,000 a month for each of the next two months.

    The club says it has the money to pay its staff and players, but that it has "reduced ability" to pay its creditors, unless urgent action is taken.

    And in the meantime it says it faces ongoing costs to meet league requirements, including safety checks at the ground.

    The latest estimate from the Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group is that it will be £26m in deficit by the end of the financial year.

    The organisation, which decides where NHS money should be spent in the Shropshire local authority area, is already £18m in the red and had previously been forecasting that figure to be even higher.

    A Shropshire CCG board meeting has been told this morning that it has to find additional savings of £10.7m.

  12. Thousands of West Midlands children to get free flu jabpublished at 10:06 British Summer Time 12 October 2016

    Nearly half a million children in the West Midlands are to be offered free flu vaccinations this winter.

    The Stay Well This Winter, external campaign is the biggest-ever flu programme seen in the region.

    This winter the programme will be extended to children in school year three (seven and eight-year-olds).

    It means in total, across the country, there are four million children eligible this year for the vaccination, which is given to them via a nasal spray rather than an injection.  

    Chief medical officer Prof Dame Sally Davies said: "Flu can be much more dangerous for children than many patients realise and when children get flu they tend to spread it around the whole family."

    The leaders of the three main political parties on Telford and Wrekin Council have written to the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, urging him again to halt what they call the "flawed" and "senseless" plan to close services at the Princess Royal Hospital. 

    The letter calls on Mr Hunt to end plans to downgrade A&E at the PRH and provide sufficient funds to maintain two properly resourced A&Es in Shropshire, whilst keeping the county's Women & Children's Unit in the town. 

    The Telford MP Lucy Allen has also asked Mr Hunt to intervene in the controversial review of health care in the county but he said decisions should be made at local level.

    Morecambe manager Jim Bentley has reiterated his dedication to the club amid speculation over his future.

    Bentley has been strongly linked with the vacant managerial role at Shrewsbury, but said: "My passion is this football club."

    The 40-year-old, the EFL's fourth longest-serving manager, has been in charge of the Shrimps since May 2011.

    Independent shop owners in Ludlow say they'll keep up their fight against plans for an out-of-town supermarket at Rocks Green. 

    Councillors put off making a decision yesterday, saying they were "minded to refuse" the plans but after taking legal advice needed to examine them in more detail.
